Lighting Handbook App Now Available on Android Market

Andrew Derrington, the app developer of the popular Lighting Handbook app recently announced that the app has been translated to the Android platform. In this first release it has all the core features that the iOS version has, and in time will gain more features such as Searching, Submit a fixture, Lighting Calculator & Electrical Formulas in app purchases and more.

Using a new universal database system it has the same fixtures as the iOS version and is updatable through the settings menu. If your device is connected to the internet, the manual is then available for viewing right within the app. You can also store manuals for offline viewing either within Lighting Handbook or in your favourite PDF viewing app.

The library of manufacturers can be updated from within the app – Go to the settings menu, from there you’ll be able to see what version of the library is currently installed and if connected to the internet, what version is now available for download. Click the “Update Library” Button and it will download the latest library and install into Lighting Handbook.

Andrew Derrington Introduces New iOS App; Lighting Calculator

iOS App developer Andrew Derrington is at it again.  He has been hard at work on his third lighting app for the iOS platform, Lighting Calculator. Some of his other iOS apps include the Lighting Handbook and the Electrical Formulas app. I know what you are thinking, these apps seem to be the same thing just different titles. You might be wrong there.

Take a look at what the Lighting Calculator app has to offer.

Beam Angle Calculator:
• Required Lens – Provide the distance and desired beam size and the app will tell you what size lens you’l need.

• Beam Diameter – Provide the distance and lens angle and the app will tell you how big a pool of light you’ll have.

•Throw Distance – Provide the beam size and lens angle and the app will tell you how far a throw is required.

Gobo Projection Calculator:
• Image Size – Provide the app with the gobo image size and throw distance, select the lantern your using and it will provide the projected image size.

• Gobo Size -Provide your desired projected Image size and throw distance, select the lantern your going to use and it will provide you with the gobo image size you need. – Handy when designing your gobo’s!

All measurements are available in Metric and Imperial, and more lanterns will be added regularly. In time a database covering over 500 lamps both conventional and moving lights will be added for easy selection and reference.

New iOS App: Electrical Formulas

Andrew Derrington, the app developer that brought us the Lighting Handbook App just released his latest iOS app into the iTunes App Store, Electrical Formulas.

The Electrical Formulas App allows users to quickly and easily convert power formulas with out the need to remember all those tricky numbers. The app includes a Volt drop calculator for both mm2 and AWG cables (Single and 3 Phase). There is also a power equation calculator, Select your voltage, then enter either amps or watts to calculate the loading.

Common Calculations the app provides

  • kVA to Amps – Single and 3 Phase
  • Amps to kVA – Single and 3 Phase
  • kVA to kW
  • kW to kVA

The Electrical Formulas App will also be available to current Lighting Handbook users in the next couple of weeks as an in app purchase at a lower price of just: £1.19, $1.99, €1.59. iPhone Lighting Handbook App Updated to v1.3

Start up the app store on your iPhone, there are some more lighting app updates.  Andrew Derrington just announced his latest update to his Lighting Handbook App, version 1.3. Not only did Andrew update the app for iOS4’s multitasking support, ha also added and update a huge list of items.

New Features:

Lighting Handbook iPhone App Updated to v1.1

I just heard from from lighting app developer Andrew Derrington that he as just released an update to his iPhone app, Lighting Handbook to version 1.1. Here are some of the updates found in version 1.1.

  • The interface has had a bit of a lift and a redesign to make it easier and cleaner to view.
  • Increased total fixture count to over 350, and also included a few new manufacturers.
  • Dimmers have now been included from Avolites, ETC, Light Processor & Zero 88 (more will follow in future versions)
  • A few new connector pinout diagrams and information.
  • Possibly the biggest part of Version 1.1 is the ability to save manuals for offline viewing.
  • And of coarse a few memory management and bug fixes.Version 1.1 is still only £2.99 / €3.99 or $4.99 and all updates are free. You can download or update your copy of Lighting Handbook through the iTunes App Store.
