Attn Lighting App Developers, Get Your Droid Apps on Amazon App Store

This is a call to action for all those lighting app developers out there. I recently took a step towards the droid side of the world.  NO, I am not giving up my Apple ways.  I still love and use my iOS device daily… most times hourly! I recently acquired a Amazon Kindle Fire. It is the latest Kindle from amazon which features a multi-touch display in color and all that jazz.  It runs a version of the Android OS. I’ll explain more about that later.

I recently took a stroll through the Amazon App Store on the Kindle.  Yes, Amazon has setup a separate app store for apps to go onto the Kindle Fire.  Seems odd to me as the apps are the same thing found on the Android Market Place.  Maybe it is Amazon trying to follow Apple’s lead and control which apps are avilable on the Kindle Fire.

Regardless. If you are an Android App developer and have a lighting app on the Android Market Place, I encourage you to add it to the Amazon App Store.  From my limited research, it is as simple as registering your current app with Amazon. There are already a hand full of lighting apps on the Amazon App Store. Join the bandwagon and get your on there too!

Visit Amazon’s App Store Developer Page to learn more about getting your Droid apps on their store. If you join now, Amazon will waive the $99 developer fee for the first year!

Lighting Handbook App Now Available on Android Market

Andrew Derrington, the app developer of the popular Lighting Handbook app recently announced that the app has been translated to the Android platform. In this first release it has all the core features that the iOS version has, and in time will gain more features such as Searching, Submit a fixture, Lighting Calculator & Electrical Formulas in app purchases and more.

Using a new universal database system it has the same fixtures as the iOS version and is updatable through the settings menu. If your device is connected to the internet, the manual is then available for viewing right within the app. You can also store manuals for offline viewing either within Lighting Handbook or in your favourite PDF viewing app.

The library of manufacturers can be updated from within the app – Go to the settings menu, from there you’ll be able to see what version of the library is currently installed and if connected to the internet, what version is now available for download. Click the “Update Library” Button and it will download the latest library and install into Lighting Handbook.

Lighting Handbook is a tool for all theatre, corporate and event technicians.
It displays information on over 750 moving lights, Dimmers, Conventional fixtures & effects:
• Weight
• Power Consumption
• Data Connection types

InfoComm 2011 Show Apps

InfoComm 2011 is right around the corner!  It happens this week in Orlando Florida from June 15th through June 17th. I’ll be heading down to InfoComm tomorrow to cover the show for both PLSN and iSquint.  If you are in town, find me, we’ll meet up and have a good time… I AM SURE OF IT! Learn more about the InfoComm show by visiting www.infocommshow.org.

InfoComm has released an update to their app for both the iPhone and Android.  I am a HUGE supporter of show apps as I don’t have to carry around a show magazine to find a booth I am looking for.  Not only does it save space, time and trees, but it is interactive!  Here is more about the app for both the iPhone and Android.

InfoComm 2011 will be filled with valuable networking activities and special events that will provide its projected 32,000 attendees with memorable experiences. The world’s largest audiovisual trade show is being held June 11-18, 2011, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

“Attending InfoComm’s tradeshow provides AV professionals and their customers a chance to see the latest in applied AV technologies at the biggest marketplace for commercial AV,” said Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., Executive Director and CEO, InfoComm International. “But it also provides great networking opportunities and a chance to celebrate the resiliency of the industry through challenging times.”

#LDI2010: Don’t Have An iPhone – LDIMobile Still Has You Covered

All of us iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch owners should feel a little special.  Live Design and LDI created the LDIMobie app.  The app is designed to help navigate us through the show and keep track of our schedule.  But what about our friends that don’t have an iOS device?

Live Design and LDI have you Android, Palm and CrackBerry users covered. Visit http://m.core-apps.com/ldi2010. When you visit the link, it will take you to the mobile version or web based version of the show guide.  While not as functional as the iOS version, you still get the LDI newsfeed, exhibitor guide, events, and speaker guide.

Make sure to bookmark the above link on your mobile device while in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks.  I applaud Live Design and LDI for saving even more trees by not having to print as many show guides and making it even easier for us attendees to navigate the show all off our mobile devices.
