Barco Announces OVL Series of LED Walls, Brighter & More Efficient

Barco is proud to announce a new line of LED-lit, DLP-based video walls with an improved LED engine. The new OVL range reaches a brightness level that is 20% higher than any competing system, without shortening the projection system’s lifetime. This makes it the most efficient LED video wall available today. The OVL video wall range is offered in 4:3 ratio, with screen sizes up to 80 inch.
Just like Barco’s 16:9 LED video walls, the new OVL series has an advanced heat management system based on liquid cooling technology, which brings the LED temperature down to the optimal level. This results in a significantly longer lifetime of the projection system, amounting to 80,000 hours of continuous operation in eco-mode – or a 35% improvement over competing video walls.

Thanks to liquid cooling, it is possible to boost the OVL’s brightness level up to 20% without shortening the system’s lifetime. This effectively makes the OVL the brightest LED-lit video wall on the market. Conversely, it is possible to prolong the system’s lifetime by lowering the brightness level. This way, Barco proves that liquid cooling is very effective in counteracting LED aging effects.

OVL video walls can save up to 30% power compared to other LED-based systems. Barco achieves this by basing the OVL’s color and brightness adjustment on smart power management, not on optical dimming.

Martin Says “Analyze THIS” With New Fixture Beam Analyzer

Take on web camera and Martin’s New Fixture Beam Analyzer and BAM, bench focusing a fixture just got easier….maybe. Here is more from Martin.

Martin Professional’s new Fixture Beam Analyzer (FBA) uses a standard webcam to analyze a lighting fixture’s output on any surface, making lamp adjustments an easier and more accurate procedure for a more uniform field of light.

The FBA consists of software and a set of three dimming filters in various grades that mount directly onto a Logitech Pro 9000 webcam. Light output is measured and a set of detailed photometric data is generated in real time. The data illustrates the level of uniformity of a fixture’s output, allowing users to easily view the effect of luminaire and/or lamp adjustments on the field of light.

Viewing the beam in greater detail on a computer screen allows for more accurate adjustments and eliminates the uncomfortable need to stare directly into the field of light. No more blurred vision and starry eyes after multiple lamp adjustments.

Not only does the FBA make for faster, more accurate lamp adjustments, it ensures a more uniform beam across multiple fixtures. More precise lamp adjustments also allow fixtures to run more efficiently and at maximum output.

The Fixture Beam Analyzer is a great benefit for rental companies who want to keep lighting fixtures performing at 100%, theatres who demand high quality output, or anyone who wants their lighting fixtures to perform like the day they left the factory. It is especially useful when lamp adjustments are needed following a lamp change.

The FBA is easy to use with no previous experience or training required. Any two users will get the same result, guaranteeing consistency in lamp adjustments for greater uniformity across fixtures.

FocusTrack’s New ‘Paperwork to Go’ Functionality

Paperwork is increasingly not ‘paperwork’ but virtual paperwork carried on laptops – until actually working in the theatre when real paper printouts have often been the most convenient way to access show information while walking around the stage focusing the rig.

Now FocusTrack, the production lighting documentation system, offers Paperwork To Go – keep your paperwork in electronic form, and carry it with you on your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.
With the purchase of one low-priced enabler app ($19.99 for iPhone/iPod, $39.99 for iPad), any of the FocusTrack data files – FocusTrack, containing information about the positions used by the moving lights in the rig, RigTrack, containing all of the information about the rig as a whole and the focus of conventional lights, and Cue List, containing the show cue data from the lighting console, along with all of the focus and cue reference photographs, can be transferred to any of Apple’s portable devices, referred to or edited while on the go, then returned to a main computer – Mac or PC.

“Apple has done a remarkable job of making the portable paperwork tools lighting people have been waiting for – lightweight, easy to carry, long battery life and much easier than paper to read in the dark!” notes FocusTrack’s Rob Halliday. “We’re delighted that FocusTrack can now complete the equation, letting you easily take all of the information about your rig, your moving light focuses and your cues with you wherever you are in the theatre. We think it will be the perfect choice for those moving around the stage re-focusing conventional lights, or for rep rigs where multiple electricians work to re-focus the rig between shows and will now be able to carry accurate, up-to-date focus information with them – even in their pocket if using an iPhone or iPod Touch.”

FocusTrack is the solution for those looking to produce complete, accurate, comprehensive show lighting documentation. FocusTrack can import show information from ETC Eos, MA grandMA and Strand 300/500-series consoles, automatically working out which moving lights are used in which positions, which colours or gobos are actually used, which lights have never been turned on and more. FocusTrack can import the complete patch from the console or other sources including Lightwright, and imports the show cue list from the console. FocusTrack is already in use on a range of shows, including the new US tours of Nine To Five, Spring Awakening and Hair, Billy Elliot worldwide, The Addams Family in New York and more.

Further information about FocusTrack and its Paperwork To Go functionality for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch is available online at www.focustrack.co.uk.

Interactive Technologies Announces Figment DMX for iOS & CueServer Express

I have always had a fascination for Interactive Technologies products, especially their CueServer.  Rather then developing a traditional lighting desk, they built a rack “desk” that you access via http or web page. While the CueServer “desk” is not marketed as a live playback desk, but as an architectural and themed environment control. How cool is that! You can customize your “control surface” all just by designing a web page.

Interactive Technologies has stepped it up a bit and developed & launched their Figment DMX iOS app. The ultimate remote focus, show control and programming app for CueServer. Designed for lighting designers, technicians and riggers, Figment is a powerful application for wirelessly controlling multiple universes of DMX lighting via the popular family of CueServer DMX interfaces.

Figment requires any one of five different models of CueServer DMX interface and a WiFi wireless network or 3G connection via a publicly accessible IP address. Figment will also run without a CueServer interface for exploring the software.

You can learn more about the Figment DMX App on Interactive Technologies website as well as download your FREE copy of the app from the iTunes App Store.

CueServer Express

Along with the Figment DMX App, Interactive Technology announced the arrival of the CueServer Express.  If you are a MacAddict like me, think of the CueServer Express and the Airport Express of the CueServer lineup.  Portable, easy setup and fully featured as the CueServer but optimized for use with the Figment DMX app and other cost-sensitive control projects.

CueServer is a complete lighting playback and integration processor, featuring advanced DMX lighting control, sophisticated event scripting and robust I/O capabilities combined in a tiny web-based device. Great for both architectural and entertainment lighting control projects, CueServer provides an unprecedented level of control and customization in an easy-to-use package.
