Remote Control Battery Lighting Session Added to Super Saturday

Stage Lighting Super Saturday adds a new session “Remote Control Battery Lighting” to its all day lighting workshop. James Smith will speak about how remote control makes it easy to put lamps, motors, solenoids, and much more, anywhere in a show without visible wires. Scott Parker says “This session provides insight and assistance with wireless techniques, batteries, charging and charge cycles. Jim will be joining our faculty that includes legendary designers Ken Billington and Richard Pilbrow.”

This popular annual seminar is designed for everyone involved in stage, architectural, or entertainment lighting. The sessions are not too basic nor too advanced. Sonny Sonnenfeld adds, “Everyone who attends will benefit. The intense all day seminar will be led by theatre lighting professionals leading sessions about inspiration, training, product, and just doing it.”

A dozen theater lighting professionals will speak and about 20 industry lighting manufacturers will on hand and have technical personnel and equipment to demonstrate. The tentative program includes inspiration, fixtures, color, consoles, moving lights, trouble shooting, CAD, Virtual Magic Sheet & LightWright, paperwork, and other subjects. Starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2011, the sixth-annual Stage Lighting Super Saturday all-day seminar will take place at the conveniently located Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York City located across from New York City’s Lincoln Center.

This Week Brings #InfoComm10 in Las Vegas Nevada

This week brings InfoComm 2010 in Las Vegas Nevada.  InfoComm is the biggest tradeshow in the country for pro-AV.  With over 900 exhibitors, and 300+ sessions spread over seven days, it is no wonder they need the LVCC!

The sessions have already started back on Saturday, but the exhibit floor does not open until 9am, Wednesday June 9 and closes Friday, June 11. Be sure to add the HTML version of the Show Floor to your smart phone to locate exhibitors while at the show.  There is also a flash version of the show floor, but as we all know, it doesn’t work on the iPhone.  There is still time to register for InfoComm, you just have to pick up your badge at the on-site registration desk.

For up to the minute news about the show and things to see, add @infocomm & @infoCommShowGuy to your twitter followers or follow the hastags #infocomm10 and #infocomm2010. You can also get more info on InfoComm by visiting the shows web site at www.infocommshow.org.

If you are attending the show, send back pictures and info about all of the latest and greatest products!

iSquint & JimOnLight Announce #USITT50 Kansas City’s Evening Party Plan

So over the last several months we’ve been talking about that convention that’s happening in Kansas City next week, and how @lekogirl and @a_mandolin are going to be going head-to-head in a Gaff Dress Challenge at the BMI Supply booth (which is booth 1010, by the way).  Even though apparently none of the lighting bloggers in this world are cool enough to report on the USITT convention in Kansas City, we’re still gonna be there having a good time!

We’ve been discussing the idea of having a one-night Gaff Dress Prom event for all of us crazy entertainment industry people to get gaffed up and have a great time together, do some networking, you know – standard fun stuff.  What I’ve come up with to solve the problems of convention evening scheduling, trying to find a place that will not only let us party but also work on our lighting blogger’s budget (which is typically negative $14 bucks).

Instead of disappointing the masses by having one party night, we’ve decided that we’re going to have a party EVERY NIGHT of USITT, at a different establishment in close proximity to the conference hotel and convention center so that everyone can walk to and fro!  There are some events scheduled between the expo floor’s closing and 10pm most nights, I think, so we’re going to start partying around 9pm each night and go until we’re partied out!

Did I mention that if you come to the party dressed to the nines in gaff tape, you’ll get entered in for some prizes to be given away each night?!  Also, Jim and I will buy you a beverage!  If you’re over 21, it’ll be whatever you want.  Under 21?  Then I will buy you sodas all night!

So:  What have you REALLY got going on that you can’t come hang out with us EVERY NIGHT YOU’RE AT USITT?!

We’re going to announce each location during that day, so keep your eyes on Twitter and Facebook for the hashtag #KCGaffCrawl to pop up and get RT’ed all over the place!

Stay tuned!
