Elektralite Introduces New PaintCan 750

Elektralite has introduced a new version of their tungsten wash fixture, the PainCan 750.  The new fixture is very similar to it’s older brother, the PaintCan 575 but with some new and updated features.  The biggest one being the new PaintCan 750 uses a GLD 750 watt lamp at 3200k.

Other features of the new PaitCan 750 include a much quilter fixture with variable speed cooling fans controlled by internal sensors, CMY mixing, a 6 color, bi-directional wheel with removable and interchangeable filters.

A new feature found on the PaintCan 750 is a beam shaping effect with a full frost filter. A nice addition to widen and soften the beam even further.

The PaintCan 750 take 100v, 115v and 230v, selectable on the fixture and feature a fully electronic dimming on board from 0 – 100%. The fixture weighs in at just 35lbs and is available in white or black. For more information, visit www.myelektralite.com.

Vari-Lite Adds VL440 Spot and VLX3 LED Fixture

Vari-Lite just introduced two new fixtures to their line up.  The first being the baby brother to their LED wash fixture, the VLX3. The VLX3 is just like it’s big brother, only a bit smaller and has three of the LED engines compared to the seven found in the original VLX.

The VLX3 has three, replaceable custom 120 watt RGBW LED chipsets that provide output that offers three times the efficacy of comparable tungsten sources. The total system provides approximately greater than 6,000 lumens of white light output, and 10,000 hour source life of the chip. The luminaire offers 70% lumen intensity maintenance over that time. Head over to Vari-Lite’s website to learn more about the VLX3.

Vari-lite also introduced the VL440 Spot moving head fixture. It is small and lightweight with a 400-watt HTI P28 Lok-it! lamp, a zoom range from 15° to 35°, and a mechanical iris for continuous beam control. The VL440 Spot luminaire provides color mixing through its three-wheel CYM color assembly and eight standard colors on a fixed wheel. To learn more about the new VL440 Spot, visit www.vari-lite.com.

Elation Releases Upgraded Platinum Spot 5R Moving Head

Elation has introduced the Platinum Spot 5R Pro, an upgraded version of its Platinum Spot 5R DMX moving head, which was introduced to the entertainment lighting industry last year with its ability to produce 575-watt-like brightness from an ultra-compact unit that’s half the size and weight of a typical 575-watt fixture, uses half as much energy and offers a much longer 2,000-hour lamp life.

Like the original, the new Platinum Spot 5R Pro delivers these same capabilities thanks to its Philips MSD Platinum 5R Lamp Technology, an innovation that allows the creation of fixtures that are brighter and more powerful with superior light quality, yet are also faster, smaller, lighter weight, draw less energy and have longer-lasting lamps. But as its name suggests, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro also goes a step beyond to offer an expanded array of professional features and effects, making it the ultimate moving head spot for theaters, stage shows, concerts, productions, churches, nightclubs and other entertainment venues.

Among the new features on the Platinum Spot 5R Pro are a 16-bit CMY color-mixing system, which allows users to concoct a dazzling palette of custom colors, and a Variable Zoom (4 to 1) with 11° to 42° beam angle.  Additionally, the “Pro” model is equipped with a built-in EWDMX Wireless DMX Receiver, capable of receiving DMX signals wirelessly from up to 3,000’ away that are sent via an Elation EWDMXT wireless DMX transmitter (sold separately).

n addition to its CMY color mixing system, Zoom and Wireless DMX receiver, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro is packed with all the great design tools and features found on the original, such as 8 vibrant dichroic colors, 22 gobos (8 rotating/indexing, 14 static), and a 3-facet rotating prism.  The Platinum Spot 5R Pro also has a Variable Frost Filter, which allows it to function as a hybrid spot/wash fixture; the frost diffuses its hard-edge spot beam into a wash-like effect, giving the unit even greater versatility.  Other features include a Motorized Iris, Motorized Focus, Variable Speed Shutter/Strobe and 0-100% Mechanical Dimmer.  In addition to its Wireless DMX receiver, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro includes 3-pin and 5-pin DMX connections.

Capable of operating in three different DMX channel modes, the standard being 23 channels, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro has a 540° (630° optional) pan and 265° tilt.  Another advantage of its innovative design is that it can move faster than traditional moving heads on pan and tilt, as well as on color/gobo changes.

At 16’ distance, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro has an output of 6,350 LUX/ 590 foot-candles.  Yet the energy-efficient unit consumes only 305 watts of electricity at maximum use.  Much smaller than a conventional 575-moving head fixture, the Platinum Spot 5R Pro measures 14.6’L x 14.5”W x 18.4”H/ 371 x 368 x 467mm, and weighs 42 lbs./ 19 kg.  cETLus certification is currently pending and expected to be issued in March 2011.

The retail price of the Upgraded Elation Platinum Spot 5R is $4,199.95.  Learn more about the fixture at Elation’s website, www.elationlighting.com.

Martin Professional Announces New Stagebar 2 LED Fixture

With twice the lumen output and 10 times the intensity of the Stagebar 54™, the Stagebar 2 is an extremely capable LED pixel bar and wash luminaire.

A new and advanced lens design provides a narrower, more concentrated field of light for better beam control and greater light intensity for overall improved floodlighting capability. A choice of lens options, which includes an opalescent diffuser lens for scenic on-camera looks, provides designers with beam angle flexibility.

Overall responsiveness of the Stagebar 2 has been improved for more reactive dimming, color fades and visual content response like pixel mapping. Additionally, fan noise from the automatic heat management system has been reduced for the benefit of TV studios and other noise-sensitive environments.

Useful for displaying imagery and video or for floodlighting surfaces and stages, the Stagebar 2 offers a vast gamut of colors and wide range of shades from an RGBAW color system. For exceptionally even and consistent looks, each diode has been calibrated for standardized brightness and color performance. The Stagebar 2 allows for individual pixels or groups of pixels to be controlled for increased design creativity.

The Stagebar 2 is an easy setup. Using 5-pin XLR and PowerCon connectors, it is simple to daisy chain both data and power and requires no external power supplies or additional cables and DMX boxes. A floor stand is available as an option.

Kezia LED Fixture – NAB 2010

It seemed that NAB was just like LDI, the trade show of LEDs, but hey, why not, they are only getting better.  One of the booths that I was told over and over again to see as well as a personal invite was PRG Distribution.  In the PRG booth was a company and fixture that I have never heard of, Gekko Technologies.  From looking over their web site, www.gekkotechnology.com, Gekko makes LED lighting solutions for the TV, Film and Photography markets.

Gekko was showing off two of their latest products, the Kezia 50 and 200. They are designed for shooting on location or in the studio with the ability to go from 2900k, 3200k, 5600k and 6500k. The fixtures can be ordered with a white optimized array of a wider saturated color ranger well suited for theatre and architectural markets.

The fixture operate on 90-264 volts  with 50 watts power draw on the Kezia 50 and 190 watt power draw on the Kezia 200. What is impressive is the light output on the fixtures.  At 12ft, the Kezia 50 outputs 42 foot candles while the Kezia 200 outputs 60 foot candles.
