Robert Juliat Shows Off AledIN 330LF LED Fresnel at Super Saturday

Here is one of those surprises that I mentioned about Super Saturday 2011.  Robert Juliat was exhibiting at the event and showed off their brand new, never seen before AledIN 330LF LED Fresnel!  The AledIN Fresnel takes the LED engine from the profile AledIN and produces a super clean and even soft light that we are use to seeing in a fresnel.  What is really impressive is the beam spread. From 20 degrees all the way to 98 degrees! I’ll let Pete Engel from Robert Juliat tell you more about the fixture. Thanks again to Scott Parker and Sonny Sonnenfeld for allowing me access to this sneak peak.

Lycian Introduces High Efficient 1250KB Follow Spot

Way back when at LDI 2010, Lycian introduced a brand new high efficient follow spot, the 1250KB.  How is it so efficient? It uses a 1200 watt, 80 volt Philips Hi-Brite, Fast-fit quartz lamp and produces a 3250k temperature beam with no color correction needed.

At 50 feet, the 1250KB is able to put up 225 foot candles in flood and 415 foot candles in spot.  Move the 1250KB back to 125 feet and the it able to put out 36 foot candles in flood and 66 foot candles in spot.

Since the 1250KB uses a 1200 watt lamp, plugging into a 15amp circuit is not a problem. At 114 pounds and measuring in at 51″ long, the 1250KB can be considered a mid sized follow spot perfect for high schools, medium sized churches and can fit in theatre coves or almost any box boom position.  Lycian also mentions that the 1250KB is ideal for HI-DEF TV since it is flicker-free and has smooth fading.

The 1250KB also features a Nichrome iris, a 6 color, self-canceling color boomerang and of course a heavy duty folding base.

The Black Tank Introduces the BrickBlaster PRO LED Fixture

This is a perfect example of how big tradeshows are and how much I miss due to that fact.  A month after LDI, I have been turned on to a new LED fixture that was introduced at the show, the BrickBlaster Pro from The Black Tank.

There are two versions of the BrickBlaster Pro, the RGBW and the Warm/Cool White fixture.  The first thing that stuck me about the fixtures is the ability to transfer the LED boards between fixtures!  Say you need more RGBW fixtures, change out the Warm/Cool White LED board on a fixture, and change it to an RGBW LED board. How cool is that?!

One BrickBlaster is 4″ cubed and draws just 50 watts of power, put puts out 1200 lumens per “brick”. Using latest Rebel LED technology and an innovative, patent pending, management system, it is capable of outputting 1200 Lumens cool while doing it.

The BRICKBLASTER PRO can be controlled using two universes of full speed 8 or 16 bit DMX512 or by selecting internal preprogrammed effects using the rear mounted LCD panel. A fixture set in Manual or Color Wash mode will output DMX allowing for multi-light synchronization. These options make the BRICKBLASTER PRO ideal for users with or without an external control source. Additional features include, automatic thermal shut down, flicker-free operation, low noise fan, 120VAC Neutrik Powercon Input, 5-Pin DMX connections, LCD control panel with intuitive user interface, three user selectable tungsten dimming curves and many more.

This BRICKBLASTER PRO is designed to allow for field replacement of key components including the LED module, power supply, control board and fan. The fixture is sold individually or in custom ruggedized, watertight road cases in two or eight pack bundles. To fit all applications, the BRICKBLASTER PRO also comes standard with three different holographic light shaping diffusing films: 20, 40 and 60 degree are included with each light.

I highly recommend jumping over to The Black Tank’s website, www.theblacktank.com, and checking out the 2 minute video about the BrickBlaster fixtures.  While there, learn more about the fixtures and how to pick one up.

The Latest From Philips at LDI 2010

If you were at LDI this year, you had to have noticed the Philips booth.  It was kind of hard to miss it.  Philips was dead smack in the middle of the floor with a huge open layout with an awesome circle truss FILLED with all of their latest LED products from all of their brands, Vari-Lite, Strand and Selecon.

My good friend and funny man from Philips, Peta Borchetta gave me a walking tour of the booth going over all the latest and greatest products. Ignore the interruptions for the peanut gallery, Alan Kibbe for the Vari-Lite division wanted to throw us off and get his five seconds on camera. Maybe next time Alan! ;)

Thanks Pete for the tour!

#LDI2010: Novella Smith Shows Off the ETC Selador Pearl LED Fixture

I love Novella Smith.  She has such a love for lighting and color!  It really shows when she is talking about her products, the Selador series of LED products from ETC.  Every time I see Novella, she has a HUGE smile on and can not wait to talk about color.  Her passion behind it really shows when she starts talking about mixing colors and using the Selador fixtures.  She mesmerizes you and gets you just as excited as she goes along.

This year at LDI was just as exciting.  Novella took a couple minutes out of her busy demo schedule to show me the latest Selador fixture, the Pearl.  It is an all white LED fixture with 3200k and 5600k LEDs in the same form factor as the rest of the 11″ Selador fixtures.  I’ll let Novella take it from here as she gives the best demo!

Thanks Novella, I miss you already!

#LDI2010 Preview: i-Pix Showing Off 6 New LED Fixtures

UK based specialist LED lighting manufacturer i-Pix will show 6 new products in its groundbreaking BB (Building Block) range at the 2010 LDI exhibition in Las Vegas on the stand of its Canadian distributor, Theatrixx.

BB1 Narrow Beam
This versatile single pixel fixture is designed for outdoor and submersible use, and is  an RDM device that can be fitted to a range of i-Pix Power Boxes and Power Bars for even greater flexibility.

The BB1 has completely homogenised optics for the smoothest of light output, and is available in 20, 35 and 45 degree beam angles.  It’s powerful custom RGB LED light engine has incredible colour mixing capabilities including the effortless sourcing of tungsten and daylight colour temperatures.

The non-LED look of the BB1’s – which more resemble PAR 36 or 46 fixtures – is a big advantage, together with the light engine which sets i-Pix fixtures in a different class from most other LED products. When it comes to whites, sometimes, people don’t actually believe they are LEDs – such is the quality of a white light emanating from an RGB device!

Both architectural and entertainment designers will be interested in the BB 1, for its completely weatherproof design, clever internal electronics and data-over-mains solution which is ideal for awkward retrofit installations.

BB2
This mega-bright entry level two pixel fixture has a choice of four interchangeable beam angles, and Camloc mounts – as with the other fixtures – for easy rigging or floor mounting.  It’s ideal for situations where the power supply is limited.

BB2x2
The BB 2×2 is a square four cell self-contained fixture with removable fronts for the option of mixing up the optical systems. The choice of quick-change optics includes the same 10 degree optic that has been so popular with the BB7, and the 20 degree optic used in the BB4, plus two additional beam angles of 35 and 45 degrees. There is also a choice of 5 different high brightness light engines.

BB3
This 3 pixel fixture shares the same choice of four beam angles – 10°, 20°, 35° and 45° complimenting the other fixtures in the BB range perfectly and sharing the same rigging accessories.

4 Way & 6 Way Power Bars
The RDM DMX power bars come in two sizes – 4 or 6 way – with either standard disconnect or a hardwired model – to which are fitted the new BB1 fixtures.

These are ideal for all types of portable applications from film & TV shoots and location work to small stages live concerts and performances, site-specific theatre, exhibitions and conferences or education establishments where safety is paramount due to the low heat levels.

The Power Bar provides low voltage to the BB1 and is equipped with an onboard user interface so each fixture to be individually addressed and the ‘operating’ mode set. Both power and data are fed neatly through a combined data/LV power cable.

The user interface receives and transmits either 8 or 16 bit DMX to the fixtures, and will run in stand-alone mode – when up to 20 memories can be stored, and a chase created from these. The Power Bar is fitted with Camloc mounts for connecting to Omega brackets, facilitating quick and easy rigging. As well as these suspension points, there is a centrally located spigot position for rigging onto stands of all types.

Across the range :
All these new BB fixtures feature i-Pix renowned homogenised optical system.  Five new high intensity light engines – standard RGB, enhanced RGB (40% brighter), Warm White, Daylight White and Tuneable White – are available across the entire range.

Future proofed 2nd generation 16 bit electronics and software architecture delivers exceptionally smooth fades, whilst the strobing function has been enhanced with a ‘strobe sync’ function between each pixel, for more dramatic strobe.  The choice of operating modes includes Stand Alone or DMX/RDM DMX, with a quick setup via the onboard user interface.

A combined power and data connection system allows quick and simple cable hook up, with IP rated protection and daisy-chaining capability. The BB range is designed and engineered to work in the harshest of touring and event environments, with quick-rig Camlocs and a choice of rigging accessories to facilitate tool free setup. This is backed up with a three year parts and labour warranty across the range.
