iDesign, by TouchAware Limited, is a precision 2D vector drawing & design app that works across all the iOS devices. Its kind of a cross between a “photoshop” and “illustrator” interface. It is easy to use and has adapted well to drawing with either your finger or an i-compatible stylus. Some of the software features include:
iDesign is available for download from the iTunes App Store. It is $4.99 currently and one download covers all iOS devices on your iTunes account. Below are the sample screen shots available on the iTunes store:

First there was rope light. Its incandescent glow adorned many a stage as running lights (and dorm rooms). Over time it would lose its intensity and saturation and you would find sections dead for no reason.
Then came the LED rope light. It was beautiful. The colors so crisp, the intensity popped. But unless you were willing to shell out big money, you were stuck with a single color non-dimmable rope light. If you were willing to spend the money it required a hard wired proprietary controller that didn’t easily, if at all, work with DMX.
Now comes the iGlo LED set. Each rope is 5 meters (16.4ish feet) of 120 tri-color LEDs that are controllable over any Wi-fi network by a web based interface or a free iPhone app. The software looks fairly intuitive and comes with some pre-programmed sequences or you can build your own in real time. When I tried to test the iPhone app it required that the hardware be connected, so I can’t verify if you can save a sequence or not.
It’s not cheap at $299 for a full set and $199 for each additional section. But if you want to throw a swanky party or a performance art piece where people have the ability to control the show, this might be a good option.
So I’m curious, what would you use it for?
Looks like West Side Systems is leading the pack in the lighting apps with updating most of their iPhone apps for iOS4 and multitasking. So all of you iPhone and iPod touch users that have taken time time to update your devices with Apple’s latest iOS update, head over to iTunes or the app store app on your device and get the free updates from West Side System. That is if you have already purchased and downloaded them.
Just last week, Apple released it’s latest version of the iPhone and iPod Touch operation system which has been named iOS4. The new iOS is geared towards Apple’s latest iPhone, 4G. But Apple didn’t leave it’s current iPhone users in the dark. Owners of 3G, 3Gs and iPod Touch devices are able to upgrade for free and get some of the great new features Apple added such as multitasking.
Multitasking gives us iPhone users the ability to run multiple apps at once now rather then opening one, going back to the home screen and opening up and another and so forth to work with multiple apps. The catch being that not only do you have to have iOS4 installed, but the apps have to have the multitasking support. West Side Systems is the first lighting app developer to update and release their apps in the iTunes app store with the multitasking support. I am expecting many of the other lighting app developers to follow suit very shortly.
In addition to getting multitasking support, BeamCalc also got a few updates to improve how it renders and draws beam projections.
As 1pm rolls around here on the Eastern Time Zone, we want to Wish the iPod a very Happy 8th Birthday. It was 8 years ago today, October 23, 2001 at 1pm est that the original iPod was announced to the world.
Oh how time has gone by so quickly since you came out. Back when you were introduced, you offered a WHOOPING 5 or 10 gig hard drive that could hold 1,000 songs and last up to 10 hours of music play back!
And now, you have grown up to be our little companion that not only plays songs, but let’s us receive calls, check email, play games and yes, run a lighting system! So to help celebrate the iPod’s 8th birthday, we are running a little give away thanks to Zinman Software.
All you have to do is post a comment on this post with your name, email address (which will not be published) and lets us know which app you might like. We are limiting everyone to one app for the moment, sorry! We only have 8 copies of each of the following to give out. Once they are taken, they are gone.

Our spy camera’s are every where these days. Including deep with in the mountains of Colorado Spring at Wybron‘s worldwide headquarters. It is rumored that Wybron is set to release a new iPhone/iPod Touch app for lighting professionals any day now. From the Mr. Blurry camera shot, it looks like some sort of Gobo library. From what we can tell from the photo is that gobo’s will be able to spin at a scalable RPM as well as in or out of focus based on sliders on the bottom. The gobo appears to be GAM’s gobo 206, Traccery Window. We are assuming that the library would have all the major player’s that produce gobo’s but can not confirm it at this time.
When questioned about the rumored iPhone app, Wybron was quick to say nothing other then “How did you know???”. While they did not directly confirm the rumor, in a way they did. Look for more information to follow in the next couple of days.

We love lighting control here at iSquint. We love it even more when it involves our favorite little product from Apple, the iPhone. We have been watching Synthe FX, the developers of the iPhone and iPod Touch DMX lighting control app, Luminair. Think of having a control console in the palm of your hand with out the need for cables. Luminair works over wireless networking to control, view and manage your lighting fixtures. It uses the Art-Net protocol to communicate with compatible hardware on your lighting network. Luminair is able to control a complete universe of DMX512.
While recently reviewing our twitter feed, we noticed a new follower, @synthefx, the developers of Luminair. Synthe FX created the new twitter feed to release updates on the next version of Luminair 1.5. Synthe FX also has a promotion running through their twitter feed. Follow Synthe FX via twitter up until the release of Luminair 1.5 and on the day of the release, Synth FX will select w winner at random from their list of followers. The winner will receive a copy of the upcoming version of Luminair, 1.5 as well as 10% off on the Enttec ODE.
We have heard through reliable sources that some of the new features in Luminair 1.5 include Quick-Touch cues for easy touch based triggering of cues, the ability to record Art-Net input port data directly to a quick-touch cue. This could be useful when recording values from a console or any or DMX source.
Price for the current version of Luminair (1.1) is $99.99 and is avilable through iTunes. For more information on Luminair control software, visit Synthe FX website at www.synthe-fx.com.
