Bulbrite Adds to Nostalgic Line of Lamps… Am I That Old?!?

I knew this day would come within my life time, but not THIS soon! Lighting is changing as we know it. LEDs seem to be taking over and the death of the incandescent lamp is just one nail away from sealing its coffin. Now that being said, the incandescent will not completely fall of the face of the world.  In fact it can’t and shouldn’t! It is a beautiful source of warm loving light. I still have a hard enough time using LEDs 100%. Nothing against what anyone is building, it is a fact, LEDs, (as of right now) can not produce the same feel of a tungsten lamp. If I am wrong, so be it. In fact, PLEASE, prove me wrong! :)

Enough ranting… for now.

Bulbrite announced the release of 10 new lamps in their Nostalgic collection.  Like I said, I knew this time would come, but not this soon!  We are already considering these lamps Nostalgic!  Must mean I am old!

More from Bulbrite:

Bulbrite’s complete Nostalgic Collection offers one of the widest variety of bases, filament design, shapes, and wattages available in the market. The collection is available in 10 distinct shapes including globe, tubular, signature (Edison-style), and classic light bulbs, in a variety of sizes, and four unique filament designs which include Hairpin, Thread, Spiral and Loop.  Each bulb features handcrafted filaments which add to the authenticity of the bulb replicas. ETC Licenses Patented Technology To Philips

I just got the shortest press release I have ever received from ETC…

ETC .. announced today that it has licensed patented technology to Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. (Philips), a global leader in lighting products. This license covers ETC technology described by US Patent 6,932,491 (and foreign counterparts) utilized by Philips in their FastFit and MiniFastFit range of entertainment lamps.

ETC CEO Fred Foster commented: “We are pleased that Philips has demonstrated respect for ETC intellectual property by entering into this license agreement for the ‘491 patent.’”

If you were wondering, Patent 6,932,491 states:

A theatrical luminaire for entertainment and architectural applications includes a lamp socket accessible from the exterior of the luminaire housing. A lamp includes a base, a bulb on one side of the base and a handle on the other side. The handle is grasped to insert the lamp into the socket. When the base is mounted in the socket, the bulb extends through the socket into the luminaire and the handle remains accessible at the exterior of the luminaire. The lamp is mounted with a one-handed push and turn motion, and contacts on wings of the base engage socket contacts as the lamp is turned to its final position. The socket is mounted on a support that is adjustable relative to the luminaire housing to preserve the correct lamp positioning when the lamp is replaced.

Hidden Up Osrams Sleeves at LDI 2010

Nothing was really hidden up Osrams sleeves at LDI 2010.  But there were a few gems of lumen producing gold that everyone might not be aware of.  Oh come on, did you know they made a lamp that can produce 1.7 million lumens?  Now yea do!  Thanks to Mark Delorezo from Osram.  He took us on a tour of the Osram booth and showed off some of the latest innovations from Osram.

Take a look and let me know what you think.  Thanks Mark & Kori!

Need 2 Million Lumens in a Single Source?

This is no joke.  From this single CSR lamp from GE, you are able to get 2,100,00 lumens.  Now pick your jaw up off your desk. GE recently announced the availability of their latest CSR lamp, the CSR24000DE.  It is a 24,000w, double ended CSR lamp for the film and video market. The new lamp features 2,100,000 lumens at a 5,900-Kelvin color temperature. It is compatible with the existing CSR range, offering a small arc gap of 45mm. The color-rendering index is 90-plus with a rated life of 750 hours.

Dadco LLC has developed two new fixtures specially for the new CSR24000DE lamp, the Challenger and the G4 HMI fixtures. Arri has also developed a fixture that can handle this beast of a lamp, the Arri T24 Fresnel.

With this much output, the fixtures do not come cheap, same with the lamp.  With all the fixtures mentioned above, check with your local dealer or rental house for pricing. One quick suggestion, do not look into the fixture when it is on.  Squinting won’t help!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia Winner – The HPL Lamp

HPL 575 LampThis weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question was about the HPL lamp.  You know that lamp that goes into the Source Four and can use a couple of different wattage versions of the HPL Lamp.  At first reading the question, it may seem easy enough right?  Well, there was a slight curve ball in the question. let’s see it again…

Since the HPL lamp is a “non-ANSI” code lamp, what does the term HPL stand for AND what wattage is the HPL lamp available in?

It was a two part question, the first half is a little easy.  HPL stands for High Performance Lamp. But what about the second half of the question. The standard lamps used in a Source Four are 575w and 750w. In some cases, lighting folks like to lamp the Source Four even further down to 375w.  Here is the curve ball part, did you know that there is an HPL 550w lamp?  The HPL 550w lamp is a 77v lamp that can only be used with ETC’s Dimmer Doubling.

We had a couple of responses with 150w.  Technically the Source Four can take a 150w CDM lamp for the HID version of the Source Four.  But looking back over the question, we are asking about the HPL lamp and not what wattage the Source Four takes.  Since the CDM 150w lamp is not a tungsten lamp and does not fall under the HPL designation, it should not be included as part of the response to our question. There were a couple of you out there trying to pull one over on us, but not so fast! ;)

This weeks winner is Eric Boxer who had answered the question with the correct name and all of the correct lamp wattage first. Congratulations Eric, look for an email from us!  You can follow Eric via twitter @eboxhead. Thank you to everyone for playing this week and for reading iSquint.net.

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – The HPL

HPL 575 LampLast weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question seemed like an easy one, and to some, it was.  This week, we are asking another lamp question.  It has to do with one of the most popular entertainment lamps out there.  With over 2 million Source Fours out there, the HPL lamp gets used quite a bit. Other then knowing that the Source four takes an HPL, do you know anything else about the lamp? So here we go…

Since the HPL lamp is a “non-ANSI” code lamp, what does the term HPL stand for AND what wattage is the HPL lamp available in?

As normal, please Direct Message us @isquint through twitter. The first person with the correct answer this week wins an iSquint prize pack. We have to limit this Tuesday Twitter Trivia to readers within the United States, sorry.  Break-a-leg!

EcoSense Par30 and MR16 LED Lamps

ecopar-30Back at Light Fair this year, we came across a new LED lamp manufacture, EcoSense. They produce some pretty neat replacement LED par lamps for the Par30 and MR16. The EcoSpec PAR30 pictured left is a  flicker-free dimming LED from 100% to 10% with a lamp life of 50,000 hours. The EcoSpec PAR30 has a E25 base or medium screw base so it fits any standard socket.  What is really amazing is that the lamp pulls 16.5 watts at 100% and produces 760 lumens with the Neutral White lamp. The lamps run off standard 100VAC ~120VAC and for the other side of the Atlantic, 220VAC ~240VAC.

There are two color temperatures available, Warm White at 3000k and Neutral White at 4000K.  The EcoSpec PAR30 also has two beam angles available, 15 and 40 degree spreads and comes with a 3 year limited warranty from the factory.

eccopar-mr16EcoSense also produces an MR16 LED lamp called the EcoSpec MR16.  Just like it’s Big Brother, the EcoSpec PAR30, the EcoSpec MR16 is flicker free dimming from 100% to 10% and has a lamp life of 50,000 hours.

The EcoSpec MR16 LED lamp uses 5 watts of power with a lumen output of 240 in the neutral white version and operates off of 12VDC.  The MR16 lamp utilizes a bi-pin configuration, or in other words the standard GU3.5 base found in MR16 strips.

The EcoSpec MR16 is available in two color temperatures as well, again Warm White at 2800k and Neutral White at 4000k.

We have not been able to locate a retail price on the EcoSense lamps as of yet, but we are quite certain like any LED lamp replacement, they are costly compared to their tungsten or halogen counterparts.  But over time, LED replacement lamps have been shown to have a cost savings.  For more information on the EcoSense LED lamp replacements and to locate a dealer near you, visit the EcoSense website at www.ecosenselighting.com.

Elation Introduces 5w MR16 ELED Lamps

elation_5w-eled-mr16Do you own any MR16 mini strips? If so, you might be interested in Elation’s latest product, the MR16 5w ELED lamps. There are two versions of the MR16 5w ELED lamps, the 12v bi-pin and E27 medium screw-base. Both are made with 5w Nichia LEDs which produce as much light output as 50w halogen lamps.  Both versions of the LED MR16 lamp are available in a warm white at 2,700K and a neutral white at 3,500K.  There are two flood degrees also available, 30 or 60 degree. All versions of the ELED MR16 lamp are dimmable using standard power sources.

What makes these lamps stand out is that they are rated for 40,000+ lamp hours.  At a retail price of $39.95 for the bi-pin version, the ELED lamps can be quite an investment up front.  But doing some quick calculations, the ELED MR16 lamps pay for themselves in less then 17,500 lamp hours based just on lamp replacement cost alone.

For more information on the Elation 5w MR16 ELED lamps, visit their website at www.elationlighting.com.  To purchase the ELED MR16 lamps, contact your local Elation dealer.
