ETC Warns about unlicensed HPL lamps

hpl575In a recent press release from Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), they warn end users about using cheap Chinese knock off’s of the HPL lamp with in the source four fixture.

Recently, an unlicensed, six-filament Chinese-made lamp has appeared in the U.S., marketed as an HPL source. One distributor is advertising this lamp under the name “Silver,” but other distributors may substitute the Chinese lamp for name-brand licensed lamps. The lamp generally comes in a generic white box.

The patented HPL lamp was invented by David Cunningham and Gregg Esakoff for the Source Four® fixture line. Only GE, Osram, Philips and Ushio are licensed to produce authentic HPL lamps that meet the strict manufacturing requirements and performance criteria established for this lamp. Buyers should look for proof on the lamp and on the packaging that the HPL lamp they purchased is manufactured by one of these four licensed manufacturers.

ETC strongly recommends not using this lamp in any Source Four fixture.

The Silver lamp does not have the correct HPL filament structure and has not been tested or approved by ETC. Please also be aware that use of the Silver lamp or any other unlicensed lamp in any Source Four fixture will void any warranty claims for that fixture.

Ushio Introduces SPH 575 Halogen Lamp

ushio_sph575Ushio recently introduced a new addition to their Entertainment Halogen lamp line up, the SPH 575.  The SPH (Superior Performance Halogen) 575 has a patent pending filament design that allows for superior field uniformity and increased lumen performance for multiple brands of PAR fixtures and ellipsoidal spotlights.

The newly engineered filament geometry works with current reflector technology to produce up to 20% – 30% increase in fixture lumens over the GLC lamp.  The filament design profile not only increases lumens but reduces shadows for a smoother field depending on individual fixture designs.  The universal G9.5 base will fit any socket that accepts the GLC, FLK, or FEl lamps.

The SPH575, like many lamps come in to versions, standard life and a long life version.  Listed below are the specifications for both.

Osram New Medium Pre-Focus Lamp: BTH

Osram Sylvania recently announced the release of a new halogen lamp for use in6″ and 8″ fresnels. The new high performance lamp, the BTH, uses the same socket base as a BTL lamp, a medium pre-focus base.

The BTH is a 575W lamp operating on 115V and is a direct replacement for the 500W, 120V BTL lamps, providing a brighter, whiter light with 30 percent more lumens and a higher color temperature.  Additionally, the rated output of the BTH of 15,500 lumens is much higher than the output of a BTL lamp at 11,000 lumens.  At an average rated life of 300 hours, the BTH has the same life as most major SSTV lamp types.
