Live Design Concert Master Classes in LA December 11 & 12, 2010

Mark your calendar, Live Design is holding another series of Master Classes this winter in Los Angles, the Live Design Master Classes.  Similar to the Broadway Master Classes that were held on the east coast in the spring, Live Design has organized classes on the west coast.

Join creative consultant Jeff Ravitz and a faculty of top designers for two-days of sessions on concert lighting and projection applications and techniques. Get inspired. Get great information. Get a chance to network with the best designers on the concert stage today. Get a look at cutting-edge lighting, projection, and staging technology. Two noted speakers at the LDMC will be Anne Militello, president of Vortex Lighting in LA and the head of the graduate lighting department at California Institute of the Arts. Joining Anne will be legendary concert lighting designer and author Jim Moody.  Mr. Moody is the head of the Technical Theatre Program, technical director, and lighting designer for The Theatre Academy at Los Angeles City College.

n addition to the Concert Master Classes, LDI and Live Design invite you to join them for Backstage Disney Day on Friday, December 10—featuring the new World of Color spectacular—and a full Technical Training Day on Monday, December 13 with hands-on training including moving lights programming on a cutting-edge Avolites console; and media server programming on the Green Hippo Hippotizer.

UPDATE: #LDI09tweetup Date Change #LDI2009

Attention all, We had to change the date of the 2009 LDI tweetup from Friday, November 20 to Saturday, November 21.  Jimonlight says this:

Due to some circumstances that arose, iSquint.net and I have to change the day of the TweetUp to Saturday night, November 21, 2009 at 8pm.  Same fun, same bat channel, all that – something just came up for Friday night that I have been asked to do.  We are really hoping that everyone will still arrive and have a great time!  We have things to hand out, we have a big announcement to give, and other stuff that will rock!

Rumor Mill: Vari*Lite to Introduce a New VLX Series LED Fixture?

We have heard from some friends in the industry talking about Vari*Lite and their next step in the LED market. Not to long ago, Vari*Lite introduced the VLX, an LED wash fixture. What is interesting is that on Vari*Lites own website, they have it listed as the VLX Series. This could only mean one thing, that the Original VLX is not the only one in the line up.

We have heard that Vari*Lite is getting ready to announce a new LED fixture at the LDI Show in Orlando this year.  What we have heard is that they are using one LED engine that would possibly be RGBW just like the VLX.

We have a lot of open ended questions that we ourselves wanted answered but are hitting a brick wall. The Vari*Lite booth, 927, is a must visit this year at LDI not only to see the VLX fixture as well as hopefully get more information and possibly see this new fixture.
