Count Down To LDI 2008

With LDI opening up right around the corner at the Las Vegas Convention Center, we have put together a listing of Booths to see with some of the latest and greatest product to come out on the market.  While this is not a complete listing, look for things missed during and after the show.

Looking Towards LDI: SeaChanger’s Latest Products

SeaChanger, the makes of the Dichroic CMY color mixing engine for the Source 4 are planning on announcing three new products at LDI in Las Vegas on October 24 – 26.  The first product has origins in the core basics of the mother company of SeaChanger, Ocean Optics, called the ColorBUG.

The ColorBUG is an ingenious, hand held wireless device for testing color and luminance in theatrical, studio and architectural applications.  Perfect for lighting designers, technicians and production personnel, ColorBUG is a the pocket-sized marvel that works wirelessly with the iPhone and iPod touch to determine CIE color values and luminance easily and quickly.  There’s simply nothing more convenient or clever for helping you monitor color and lighting in virtually any environment.

The next product SeaChanger plans to announce at LDI this year is the SeaChanger White Wash.  Just like it’s brother, the SeaChanger Extreme Green, The White was uses ETC Source 4 Ellipsoidal as the foundation of the light.

The SeaChanger White Wash is the zoomable, soft-edged solution for stunning white light.You can manually adjust focal length of the lens to create wash areas from 20-70 FOV.  This whie light changer turns your ETC Source Four reflector housing into a wash light that provides soft illumination for theatrical, worship and architectural applications.  [The] SeaChanger White Wash is easily upgradable to [the] SeaChanger Color Wash in minutes.  Installation is quick and efficient.

For years SeaChanger has heard for industry professionals that they would love to use the SeaChanger Extreme Green out side for concert and other events.  SeaChanger has anwsered that call with their latest product, the SeaChanger Nemo.

The SeaChanger Nemo is ideal for both indoor and outdoor lighting becasue of its resistance to the elements and carefree operation.  Nemo reduces enery costs with a solid state, energy efficient LIFI plasma source that reduces consumption and heat load.  this new class of high intensity light source brings full spectrum and dimming for both general and specialty lighting applications.  Nemo’s LIFI design offers a longer life with up to 15,000 hours of lamp time — ideal for hard to reach installations.  The Nemo’s broad spectrum high color temperature output delivers 15,000 lumens for bolder blues and richer reds.  Its rugged design is ideal for theme parks, night clubs, building illumination and all general outdoor events where weather resistance and durability are critical.  The SeaChanger Nemo utilizes the ETC Source Four front barre housing.

Looking Towards LDI: Lex Products Multi Cable Tester

Lex Products, the provers of high quality power and data distribution products will be announcing and release a new product to the power tester line up called the LIVE Multi-Cable Tester.  The tester is geared towards the production and rental market with in the entertainment industry.

The LSC 6Circuit Live Multi-Cable Tester is the first portable 19-pin tester that tests and diagnoses cabling problems while the cable is still installed.  Unlike conventional 19-pin testers which plugs directly into theend of any energized, dimmed or undimmed six-circuit cable.

Altman Releases New Theatrical Catalog

On this the eve of LDI 2008 in Las Veags at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Altman Lighting has announced the release of their new Theatrical Lighting Catalog.  they have totally re designed their catalog from old.  Altman has included more information about all the fixtures they manufacture as well as giving a history of Altman not only through words, but photos as well.  Altman has also included how fixtures are made and gives a brief run down on their manufacturing process.

Looking Towards LDI: Lex Products 6kw, 12kw & 24kw Portable Dimmers

Lex Products has announced the release of three new portable dimmers, the 6kw, 12kw, and 24kw. These dimmers are designed for use with in any area of the entertainment industry where large load dimmers are required.  The roadworthy design is based on their portable power distro construction and include 100% solid state design and reliability. The dimmers have panel mount stage pin connectors for input and output as well as pass through.  The dimmers are controlled by microprocessor-based control electronics and offer a modular design for simple access and upgrade voltage. These dimmers offer three ways to control the dimming of the attached fixture, locally through a slider, full digital dimming with push buttons on the front to increase or decrease the intensity and finally through DMX 512A. The dimmers offer 8-bit resolution allowing for full 256-step dimming control to ensure exact level repeatability.

Looking Towards LDI: Doug Fleenor Design Wireless LED Power Supply

Doug Fleenor Design or aka Dr. DMX, the provider of unique and industry standard DMX distribution devices is announcing a new product at LDI this week, the Wireless LED100 Power Supply.

The totally wireless LED100 power supply is targeted at the event industry. Whereas wireless supplies intended for threater may power a luminary for several minutes, the event power supplies must power the luminary for several hours. The LED100 powers a Color Kinetics ColorBlast 12 for six hours when on full (100% white) and 24 hours on a rolling color fade. Features include W-DMX wireless control, absorptive-glass-mat sealed lead acid batteries, a built in charger, a battery voltmeter, and a five year warranty.

Doug Fleenor Design also makes a Wireless LED300 Power Supply that even more LED products from such manufacturers as Color Kinetics by Philips, and other DMX devices such as the Chroma-Q gel scroller and gobo rotators from Apollo Design.

Looking Towards LDI: Le Maitre Confetti Xtreme

Le Maitre Special Effects from America’s little brother to the north, Canada have announced the release of a new product in their paper products line called the Confetti Xtreme.

While no specific information has been released, LeMaitre will be demonstrating the Confetti Xtreme and other special effects products at the LDI show in Las Veags October 24 – 26 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Visit Le Maitre at LDI in their booth, 2867 to see the “most powerful paper machine yet” and Le Maitre’s other smoke, fog and haze machines in action.

Le Maitre has another booth at LDI, booth 3022  that will demonstrate other Special Effects products such as the G3000, LSG with Floor Pocket, Stage Fogger, Silent Storm and the Bubble Master.

Looking Toward LDI: PRG Bad Boy

Production Resource Group, (PRG) one of the industry’s top rental and production houses in the US and UK markets has recently announced the arrival of a new Moving Spot Luminaire at PLASA 2008 in the UK.

The Bad Boy™ from PRG is an elegantly engineered, hybrid luminaire that combines the qualities of a traditional automated light with alarge venue fixture.

Bad Boy is the ideal choice whenever a big-beam look is required, for example, when playing in front of high-brightness LED screens. Producing a powerful 48,000 lumens, the Bad Boy couples its high-definition optics with a Philips MSR Gold™ FastFit lamp that can be set at any level between 700W and 1400W. Boasting an optical efficiency of over 40%, Bad Boy doubles standard efficiencies, marrying both brightness and green product ideals without compromise.

The Bad Boy uses a Philips MSR Golf 1200W SA/SE FastFir Lamp and is configurable between 700w and 1400w.  The reflector is a precision glass reflector with dichroic cold mirror coating.  The Bad Boy utlizies 41 DMX address to control the fixture and includes CMY mixing, a static color wheel, 2 gobo wheels of 7 gobos each with full rotation and spin.

Looking Towards LDI: New Lee Gel Filters

Lee Filters has worked with Lighting designers, Peter Fisker and Paule Constable to develope 8 new lighting gels that we officially announced and released at PLASA 2008 in the UK.  Working alongsde the LEE research and development team, each designer created four new cloros which have now been added to the popular LEE 700 series.

Looking Towards LDI: Lightwright 5

City Theatrical, the distributors of Lightwright have announced that the Developed and coder of Lightwright, John McKernon will be on hand in the City Theatrical booth, 1151 at LDI on October 24 – 26 in Las Vegas.

John McKernon will be with us to demonstrate his latest version of this award winning lighting paperwork software.  Lightwright is a standard of the industry, and is used on nearly 100% of Broadway shows and tours.  If you are a professional lighting designer, it’s very likely that you are a Lightwright user.  This new version features data exchange with Vectorworks, worksheet history, worksheet reconciliation for multiple users, network connectivity, color scroll and moving light wheel design windows and loads of other new features.  Lightwright just keeps getting better and better!

Looking Towards LDI: Times Square Lights New Fixtures

Times Square Lighting is announcing two new lighting fixtures this year at LDI in Las Vegas.  The first lighting instrument to be introduced is the Sunset Strip.  It is a 120v, multi-compartment strip light that take 12v, 75w MR16 lamps at max.  The Sunset Strip is available in 1,2,3 or 4 circuit versions.  For more information on the Sunset Strip, download the product information sheet or visit www.tslight.com.

The next instrument Time Square Lighting is introducing at LDI is the Broadway Cyc Light.  The Broadway Cyc is a lightweight yet rugged fixture designed with an asymmetri- cal reflector to provide a brilliant, even wash of light for cycloramas and back- drops. Rated for 1500 watts, this unit features adjustable lampholders which accept lamps of three different lengths. Ajoiner bracket allows this luminaire to be easily converted into multiple cell units. This fixture is available with a variety of yokes and other hanging hardware to accommodate various overhead and

Looking Towards LDI: Elements Labs Cobra

Element Labs is introducing a new product this week at LDI in Las Vegas.  They are introducing a new product called Cobra.  The cobra is a 16mm ( virtual 8 ) LED video display is a flexible, indoor/outdoor system suited to both permanent installation and rental applications.  The range of displays was designed to create an environmentally-friendly system with a fraction of the power consumption, heat generation, and weight of other LED displays.

It features a 100,00-hour lifetime with RoHS and Class B EMC compliance.  Brightness of the display is 6,500 nits, and a cyan LED expands the color range and yields a purer white.  The display is also fanless in an IP66-rated enclosure requiring no tools for deployment and removal.  Cobra is powered by the Vizomo video processor.
