Ken Billington Talks About Lycian’s 1250KB Followspot at Super Saturday 2011

I’ll let Mr. Billington and Steve Lerman talk about this one. You can learn more about the Lycian 1250KB Followspot by visiting their website at www.lycian.com.  Thank again to Scott Parker and Sonny Sonnenfeld for permission to record this interview at the Stage Seminars Super Saturday.

Lycian Introduces High Efficient 1250KB Follow Spot

Way back when at LDI 2010, Lycian introduced a brand new high efficient follow spot, the 1250KB.  How is it so efficient? It uses a 1200 watt, 80 volt Philips Hi-Brite, Fast-fit quartz lamp and produces a 3250k temperature beam with no color correction needed.

At 50 feet, the 1250KB is able to put up 225 foot candles in flood and 415 foot candles in spot.  Move the 1250KB back to 125 feet and the it able to put out 36 foot candles in flood and 66 foot candles in spot.

Since the 1250KB uses a 1200 watt lamp, plugging into a 15amp circuit is not a problem. At 114 pounds and measuring in at 51″ long, the 1250KB can be considered a mid sized follow spot perfect for high schools, medium sized churches and can fit in theatre coves or almost any box boom position.  Lycian also mentions that the 1250KB is ideal for HI-DEF TV since it is flicker-free and has smooth fading.

The 1250KB also features a Nichrome iris, a 6 color, self-canceling color boomerang and of course a heavy duty folding base.

Rumor Confirmed: Lycian Introduces New Followspot – Mini Arc

lycian_miniarcA short time ago, we mentioned a rumor floating around that Lycian is preparing to add a new follow spot to their line up.  Lycian just announced the release of the new followspot, the Mini Arc 1233. The Mini Arc fills the huge gap in follow spot market, a bright discharge followspot that is economical and affordable by smaller venues.

The 1233 Mini Arc meets the challenge of an affordable HMI/MSR based followspot that offers good output and required features at a value price point. The 1233 Mini Arc operates on 110V and should appeal to schools, houses of worship, corporate events, clubs, and small theatres due to its bright, clean output, which comes from well designed optics including the use of a dichroic glass reflector, the company says. The compact, lightweight unit features a fully closing nichrome iris; dowser; fine focus mechanism; gobo slot; and silent, cool, no-fan operation. The manual color boomerang has six color rings. It comes complete with castered base, and line cord with connector.

Lycian has not released any more details on the new Mini Arc fixture.  We are awaiting the updates to take effect on their website, www.lycian.com.  Shipping and availability has not be released either, but we can mention the retail price at $2,795.

Rumor Mill: New Follow Spot From Lycian Stage Lighting

We received an tip form our source under deep cover that Lycian Stage Lighting, the makers of Stage and live entertainment follow spots is on the verge of announcing a new follow spot to their line up.  The few details that we have are that the new follow spot is design to fill a spot in the market that has been lacking for years.  It is an entry level follow spot with a HMI/MSR lamp designed for smaller venues.  We have not seen any photometrics on the new follow spot as yet, but of under cover operative(UCO) is starting up the copier and we should have more details in the near future. Our UCO has tapped the phone lines and over heard that the new follows pot will fall between their standard line and professional line of follow spots in terms of pricing and within the line up of follow spots.

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

UPDATE:

We received some more information from a twitter follower about the New Lycian Follow Spot.  It is the Mini Arc 200w HMI/MSR follow spot.  It is silent, runs cool with no fan operation.  It fits the in-between niche market. Thanks kdjh!

Also, forgot to mention that the fixture was shown at USITT this past month. Thanks bpeoples!
