Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Daphne Mir

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn comes from that SoCal hip chick, Daphne Mir.  You may know her better as @Lekogirl or Swatchbook Dress Girl from LDI 2009.  Daphne is an up and coming Lighting Designer to keep your eyes on.  The photo above is from her Senior year at Orange County High School of the Arts where she designed the lights for Middle School Mosaic, a four, One Act Show. I love the deep saturation on stage with the area’s of interest bathed in light.  What an awesome picture! Excellent work Daphne.

Check out some of Daphne’s other design work on her Flickr Page. Want to see your work featured here on the iSquint Friday Flickr Lighting Porn? Each week, I randomly select a photo from the Flickr Lighting Porn Pool on Flickr.com.  Simple add your lighting design work from the pool and you just may be randomly selected one week!

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Stefan Johnson

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn comes from Stefan Johnson. While the photo may not be the best quality, it still shows some great use of lighting by giving us a placement of a grand ball room of sorts for a dance piece with the use of glass gobos.  From what little information I have been able to dig up about, what I think this design is from a dance piece that Stefan designed at Galluadet University right here in Washington, DC in 1994.  But I could be wrong.

Looking over Stefan’s bio, he has design all over the country and world designing lights for stage and dance pieces.  You can see more of Stefan’s work by visiting his web site.  You can also find Stefan on twitter, @stefan229.  Thanks Stefan for adding your design work to the Friday Flickr Lighting Porn!

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Sean Smallman

This weeks randomly selected Flickr Lighting Porn Photo comes from Sean Smallman.  The above image is from his 2009 design of Oklahoma! at the Indiana University, Lee Norvelle Theatre Center. When I think of the show Oklahoma, this is exactly what I envision!  I love the gradient on the cyc.  It really gives the feel of a sunset going into night! Looking at some of Sean’s other photos from Okalahoma, he made some great use of gobo’s to texture the stage for specific scenes.  It really made me think that I was back on the preirie.

Want to see more of Sean’s work, head over to his site at www.seansmallman.com.  You can see some of his other work and get in touch with him there.  Thanks Sean for sharing your great design work on the Friday Flickr Lighting Porn Pool!

NAB 2010 – Done and Gone

That’s it, that is all she wrote for NAB 2010 in Las Vegas.  The show floor closed down about five hours ago and things moved quick to get exhibitors out of the hall.  Some people were done in an hour, others will be there through the weekend with such massive booths to break down.

My time spent on the show floor was a wonderful experience, and a tiring on at that too!  With that show floor expanding across North, Central and South halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center and other off site locations, there was just not enough time in the day to walk the entire show floor. I was mainly stuck to central hall this year as that is where I was doing interviews in the SeaChanger booth along with all most all of the lighting exhibitors being located there as well.  Just walking the Central hall was quite the task, but still so worth it.

If you have any interest on top of lighting in broadcast, production, content creation and acquisition, you really must attend NAB next year!  There are devices from the beginning level all the way up to the HD production and broadcast level.  Seeing as I am still on the beginning level of video and audio acquisition, I was drooling over some of the latest and greats cameras, production equipment and tools. And remeber, this was just things that I saw in central hall! Who knows what I missed in the other halls!

Some of the great lighting products that I saw were mainly LED products.  It seems that everyone is “in the game” now with getting an LED product out on the market. While I would love to go on and on about them right now, I have to prepare for tonights dinner with the great folks at SeaChanger.  During the weekend and going on into next week I will be putting up some video’s I made during my time here at NAB along with more details and info about some of the new products coming to the market.

I also will be putting up some great interviews that I did in the SeaChanger booth with some lighting designers and of course, the SeaChanger Duck. I want to give a HUGE shout out to SeaChanger, especially Beth, Tom and Phil for bringing me to NAB to cover and do interviews on the show floor.  I had a blast here in Vegas and am so grateful for this opportunity! Even though SeaChanger brought me out to NAB, I really think you should look at the Nemo Plasma color mixing fixture.  All signs point to a great and cool fixture!

Make sure to mark your calendar for next years NAB Show, April 9-11 in Las Vegas!

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – wbLD

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn is by wbLD, at least that is his handle on Flickr. Normally, I can find out more information about photos from flickr, but this weeks photo I failed.  I would have to assume that this is a christmas show given that there are decorated trees in the background.  What I do love about the photo are the shadows dancing on the cyc.  I bet that made for one great effect in person!

What to see your work featured here on iSquint?  Add your lighting design work to the Friday Flickr Lighting Porn Pool.  Each week I randomly select a photo from the pool and feature it here.  So, wbLD, if you are out there, can you tell us a little more about the photo and your design here?

#USITT Day 2 Photos

Talk about another great day in Kansas City! Not only is the weather awesome, so is the Conference and Stage Expo. Today brought even MORE photos, interviews, videos and just plan fun! I only have a short bit of time to upload 130 photos from today as I do have to make it to some evening events tonight. Look for even more photos and coverage of the USITT show as we get closer to the weekend.

#USITT – Day 1 Photos

I know, I know, it is a little late today for photos from USITT, but it was AWESOME. I meet some really great people, briefly looked and some great products.  Tomorrow is down and dirty day with getting more in depth about what is out there.  But I have to say, if you didn’t make it to KC for this thing… PLAN ON IT NEXT YEAR.  My goal is to make it feel like you were here, so look for more photos, video, audio and just cool stuff coming.

So to help tide you over, photos from day one of USITT 2010.

Photos From Setup of #USITT in KC

Here is a sneak peak at what it looks like on the show floor right now. Exhibitors are hard at work finishing setup and programming their booths. In just the couple of hours of being on the ground here in Kansas City, I have ran in to a BUNCH of friends, old and new! There is still plenty of time to meet more this week, so look out!

These photos should hold you over till later tonight when the #KCgaffCrawl begins.

#ProLight + Sound 2010 #PLS2010 First Round of Photos are in

With a little help from my good friend Peter Kirkup from Zero 88, we have photos from the show floor of ProLight + Sound in Frankfurt Germany.  The show opened at 9am this morning local time and has seen some great foot traffic and exciting new products.  All of which I have been writing about this entire month!

Peter has been kind enough to send me the first round of photos of the show with some great shots of the new products announced and shown on the floor. I’ll be adding more and more photos through out the day and through the rest of the show as they come in.  If you are on Twitter, be sure to follow the search string #PLS2010 and #ProLight.  If you can read German, all the better!

If we are lucky, Peter will “produce” another excellent trade show video like he did at LDI 2009 in Orlando Florida!

Thanks Peter!!

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Matt DeLong

Matt DeLong - Hair

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn comes from Matt DeLong, a Lighting Designer and Product Manager for Rosco Labs. This is a photo from the production of Hair at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, CT.  What is interesting in this photo and production is the use of the Rosco X24 X-Effects Projector on the cyc to produce movement and trippy texture that is almost always associated with the time frame of Hair and the 70’s. Excellent use of your own product Matt! ;)

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Andrew F. Griffin

Andrew GGriffin - Orpheus

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn comes from A Lighting Designer based right here in my hometown of Washington, DC, Andrew F. Griffin, (@afgld). Funny enough, the first time I read Andrew’s name was on a postcard for show he lit, Dublin Carol at the SCENA Theatre, also here in the DC area. Back to the photo… Pictured above is a scene that Andrew lit back in 2006 at Catholic University of America, Orpheus. What a great silhouette shot! Excellent work Andrew!

You can see more of Andrew’s work on his flickr photostream. You can learn more about Andrew and some of his past work by visiting his website, www.andrewfgriffin.com.
