Before you read on into the press release, take a 5 minute coffee break and check out the video below.

MegaPointe – The global launch from ROBE lighting on Vimeo.

More from the Press Release:

Robe goes Mega tomorrow morning with the global launch of its much anticipated new multi-functional moving light fixture … the MegaPointe!

This hugely innovative new “reference point” and landmark product is revealed worldwide on www.robe.cz from midnight tonight – 12.00 a.m. Tuesday 5th September 2017 Central European Timezone (CET).

Just click on the MEGA icon ..

This follows a series of eye-catching and intriguing teaser videos “Now there is MEGA” which have generated a huge amount of excitement globally throughout lighting and visual communities.

MegaPointe is set to define new standards and expectations in moving light technology … taking the original concept of the all-in-one fixture … to a whole new level.

Utilizing an exclusive 470W short-arc lightsource, Robe’s diligently crafted MegaPointe optics produce phenomenally bright parallel beams, incredible spot gobo projections, together with super-quick movement, smooth CMY colour mixing and a multitude of effects available for splitting and shaping the light in Spot, Beam or Wash modes.

The zoom ranges from 1.8 to 21 degrees in Beam mode – tight, powerful and punchy, and goes from 3 to 42 degrees in Spot mode with crystal clear high-clarity output through a 150 mm diameter front lens, with a stunning total lumen output of 20.375 and an impressive CRI of over 80.

Inventive, different in-air projections can be created using the new Effects Engine, pre-loaded with 12 dynamic beam and flower effects, and can be further finessed using the beam shaper which can emulate framing shutter effects and create rectangular shapes as well as being rotatable and indexable.

Utilising the ‘light’ and medium’ frost filters with any combination of colours from the CMY mixing system produces a beautiful, smooth, even wash coverage.

There is a static 14-slot plus open gobo wheel fitted with glass gobos for precision surface projections and exciting in-air impressions, and a second wheel contains 9 rotating, indexable and replaceable gobos.

These can be combined with a variable speed, bi-directional animation wheel which can be used in conjunction with any of the gobos or on its own to enhance or produce exceptionally subtle and detailed effects and projections.

A remote adjustable hot-spot control can further influence the appearance of the lightsource, and there is yet more versatility with a series of pre-programmable ‘random’ strobe and pulse effects.

In keeping with Robe’s commitment to smaller-brighter-lighter fixtures … It weighs only 22Kgs (48.5lbs)!

MegaPointe draws on Robe’s expertise as a premium moving light manufacturer and has been developed by the R ‘n’ D team working in close collaboration with valuable input from lighting professionals to develop another outstanding product.

Robe’s Pointe –- revolutionary at the time – was launched in 2013 and led the way as the first truly multi-functional moving light taking the industry by storm and established new standards of flexibility and choice for LDs, programmers and operators. It continues to be one of the company’s best-selling products.

MiniPointe was launched in 2015 to bring all the well-loved Pointe dynamics to small-to-medium applications … and now the family is completed with the MegaPointe, which takes everything up several notches with refined touches enhancements like CMY colour mixing and blistering brightness.

This multi-functional, multi-purpose luminaire is perfect for live concerts, festivals, EDM & dance extravaganzas, TV productions, outdoor spectaculars and all types of live events and permanent installations.

The first MegaPointes were live in action a week before the launch … on the Main Stage production lighting rig designed by Sander den Otter for Mysteryland 2017, the Netherlands’ oldest and most original dance music extravaganza this year staged over two days at Haarlemmermeerse Bos, Amsterdam, and produced by ID&T.

MegaPointes made a big impact on the main stage of the first ever New Horizons EDM / dance music event at Nürburgring, Germany, part of a production design by Andre Beekmans from NL based creative practice, The Art of Light.

The launch is supported by worldwide product demonstrations and roadshows via Robe’s subsidiaries and distributor network – so everyone has a good chance to see the product for real, and the units are ready for immediate shipping.

A full list of international MegaPointe events is available on www.robe.cz

MegaPointes will appear on their first international trade show at PLASA London, September 17th – 19th, where visitors can catch a live version of the uber-cool video launch show.

Elation Professional Launches the SNIPER, a Multi-Effect and Laser Simulator

Sniper

Over the weekend, Elation attended the PRO Show @ BPM in Birmingham England to introduce their latest product to the world.  Those attending witnessed Director of Sales, Eric Loader introducing the Sniper, a multi-effect and laser simulator.  The rest of us, we had to wait the weekend out for the big announcement to make it over the pond. Was this a ploy to get us to attend the PRO Show to see it live and in person… it kinda worked!

Here are more details about Elation Professionals latest product, the SNIPER!

The Sniper is a revolutionary hybrid beam, scanner and laser simulator in one. Emitting a powerful, precise and ultra-narrow 3° beam, a high-speed X/Y scan and Z rotation mirror system allows the Sniper to spread laser-like effects including liquid sky, laser wave, and laser cone effects, all moving at speeds never seen before. What’s more, Sniper allows these effects to be projected and “scanned” into the crowd and without the hassle of laser regulations!

“The Sniper is unlike anything that’s out there today and we’re excited to see the different ways lighting designers will incorporate it into their designs,” states Elation Professional Sales Director Eric Loader. “This is not a one-trick pony or a simple ‘upgrade’ – it does so much more – giving LD’s a host of new and varied effect possibilities from a single luminaire. It’s available now and we’re able to offer it at a price point that is certain to have mass appeal.”

The Sniper is the perfect new high-energy effect light for clubs and other nighttime venues and can liven up any stage for tours and special events. In fact, the Sniper has already had its first televised event and touring debut having been used on Big Knockout Boxing at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas in August on DirecTV, and is currently on rock band A Day to Remember’s US tour. It’s also specified to be in the rig when One Republic kicks off their European tour in October.

Built around recent advancements in lamp, electronics, optics and motor technology, the Sniper is powered by the new 132W Philips™ MSD Platinum lamp (6,000 hour lifetime rating), delivering an intensity of 45,010 lux @ 16.4’ (5m). Designers have 14 dichroic colors and 17 static gobos (including beam reduction gobos) at their disposal to create a variety of dynamic effects which can be delivered at lightning speed thanks to the ultra-fast mirror system. The high-precision beam and effects can be multiplied via a 3-facet rotating prism and further manipulated using a variable speed shutter, mechanical dimmer and strobe. The Sniper provides all that power and effect while consuming a maximum of only 205W.

The Sniper is naturally DMX controllable offering 14, 16 and 18 channel DMX modes (18 channel is 16 bit) and includes multiple built-in pattern macros via DMX that make programming even quicker and easier. A 4-button touch control panel and LCD display provide for easy hands-on addressing with easy-to-read fixture menus and messages. Ruggedly built and compact at 14.2″ x 12.0″ x 11.6″ (361mm x 305mm x 295mm) and weighing 21 lbs (9.5 kg), the Sniper will fit comfortably in any rig or installation.

Professional grade Neutrik 5-pin DMX in/out and Powercon in/out connections are included and multiple units can easily be linked together for customizable setups. An auto-sensing power supply covers worldwide voltages and frequencies allowing the fixture to operate anywhere in the world.

Looking to get more details, photos or videos of the Sniper in action?  You have to be patient, Elation will provide them soon enough on their website, www.elationlighting.com.

Lex Products Introduces EverGrip Molded Stage Pin Connector

The Stage pin, an industry favorite and considered by many the best connector for us.  It has been around since the early 20th century.  Little has changed in the over all design since it was introduced.  Sure, we have some up with better materials and secure wire connections.

There has always been the issue of bent pins, thus requiring a pin tool or the old air gap impedance problem from connections slipping apart.

Lex Products has come up with a way to fit all of those little announces with the new EverGrip Molded Stage Pin Connector. Lex developed the EverGrip Molded Stage Pin Extension and safety shroud in response to industry research, which revealed crushed and bent pins were the primary cause of stage pin connector failure, resulting in poor connections between male and female devices.

Exclusive Safety Shroud for Extra Connector Pin Protection: The spring-loaded shroud features a lock button that fastens the shroud in the forward position to prevent damage to pins, or in the retracted position for easy mating with panel mount receptacles. A separate connector lock button fastens male and female inline connectors together when mated to prevent accidental disconnection.

Proprietary Construction: The new EverGrip Molded Stage Pin Extensions, available in 60 and 100 Amp ratings, contain thermoset resin contact carriers, which resist electrical tracking and can withstand higher temperatures caused by overload or arcing. Lex Products’ exclusive premold design bonds the cable and connector together to deliver superior strain relief and secure terminations. An impact resistant thermoplastic elastomer overmold prevents internal damage to pins and contacts and is insulated for safe handling.

Designed for Ease of Use and Extended Cable Life: An exclusive, ergonomic, tapered hand grip provides a firm gripping surface for easy connector mating and unmating. The extension’s rugged, one-piece connector construction inhibits infiltration of contaminants and eliminates joints and loose assembly screws. A UV-stabilized thermoplastic elastomer exterior prevents connector housing degradation when used outdoors.

The new EverGrip Molded Stage Pin Extension is expected to begin shipping mid summer 2012.  Learn more at www.lexproducts.com.

MA Lighting Announces onPC Command Wing

The MA onPC command wing paves the way for mobile use of the highly flexible and powerful grandMA2 control system. In combination with the free of charge grandMA2 onPC software, the MA onPC command wing is a portable 2,048 parameter control solution that can be used nearly in any location – and all for an affordable price.

Designed as the perfect hardware expansion to the grandMA2 onPC software, the MA onPC command wing enables the look and feel of the software to be as close to a real grandMA2 console as possible. Thanks to the MA onPC command wing – incorporating the command section of the grandMA2 consoles – it has never been easier to use the grandMA2 onPC software. With a simple USB connection between the MA onPC command wing and the computer running the grandMA2 onPC software, all inputs and outputs of a grandMA2 console are available to the user. DMX, Midi, Timecode and Analogue Remote are all on hand directly at the MA onPC command wing.

Wherever it is physically difficult to use a grandMA2 console, the MA onPC command wing, in conjunction with the grandMA2 onPC software, enables the customer to program or playback within the grandMA2 world.

Due to its compact size the MA onPC command wing is perfect for traveling – even as hand luggage on a plane. However the MA onPC command wing is not only designed for tours. It is also ideal for smaller shows and clubs, for programming in a theatre auditorium as well as for pre-programming. It’s also the perfect choice for any MA enthusiast to enter the world of MA Lighting.
If 2048 parameters are not enough, the MA onPC command wing can be expanded by using one of the existing MA 2Port node options. To do this you can either use an MA 2Port Node onPC or an MA 2Port Node onPC PRO. An MA 2Port Node onPC will give 512 additional parameters and an MA 2Port Node onPC PRO will add 1,024 parameters. As MA Lighting sticks to its rules, an MA 2Port Node onPC only counts once and only the one with the most parameters is added. Means if you add a second MA 2Port Node onPC it just provides additional DMX connectors.

Pricing has not yet been confirmed. The onPC Command Wing is expected to be released the first quarter of 2012. One other thing to note, the faders are not motorized. For further information, visit wing.malighting.com.

UPDATE: The north American retail price for the onPC Command Wing through ACT Lighting is $8,250.00

ArKaos Introduces A30 Media Server

ArKaos announced their latest hardware product, the A30 Media Server. The case has been designed to allow a very efficient air flow. Several fans, protected by a dust filter, are located at the front of the case and can be easily serviced without opening the rest of the case. This is done through a special door that gives access to both the fans and the filter without exposing any cables or electrical connections. This is very handy when working on long tours.

The custom-made case provides a very convenient display on the front which allows the server to be used without the need to connect to an external display. The front cover also provides a large LED strip that gives feedback on the state of operation of the server.

Neutrik connectors are used exclusively on the back of the case to provide sturdy connections. Similarly for the audio, the server provides balanced audio on XLR connectors for both input and output.

It is pre-configured to work directly with all market-leading DMX lighting desks. Everything has been designed so you just have to plug and play. The ArKaos A30 offers playback of nine simultaneous HD layers or six Full HD layers on up to 6 outputs.

AviiQ Smart Case for the iPad 2

The morning the iPad 2 was due to release I was working a gig in Trinidad. I had sat up all night refreshing my browser waiting for the online ordering to open. Two weeks later it showed up at my apartment with an orange Smart Cover. I was gleaming until I realized that there was nothing to protect my shiny new toy (tool).

For me when it comes to cases form and function are equals. It should protect, but not add a lot of extra bulk. It should allow for me to use all the ports without flaps or dangly things getting in the way. And it needs to look good with my orange Smart Cover. I’ve searched for a case to cover the back of my iPad for a while and I think I found my solution- the AviiQ Smart case. It’s form fitting aluminum so it doesn’t add much to the size or weight and travels well. No flimsy, dangly port covers. And it matches all the colors of the Smart Cover. How cool is that?

The AviiQ Smart Case is available now for pre-order now from their website for $50. I’ll let you know how I like it once I get to play with it.
