Video From #ProLight + Sound 2010 #PLS2010

My good friend Peter Kirkup is on the ground in Frankfurt Germany working the show for his company, Zero 88.  Peter put together another one of his trade show videos.  It seems like PLS is all about the LASERs just like LDI 2009 was!  Thanks Peter for sharing the video!

ChamSys Announces MagicDMX, A USB DMX Interface

I received a message from ChamSys yesterday and all it contained was this…

www.magicDMX.com

Looks like ChamSys is announcing a USB DMX Interface called MagicDMX.  It is a single Universe or 512 channel DMX converter that works with ChamSys MagicQ PC Based Lighting Controller. The MagicDMX interface device contains the processor that handles the DMX control signal and NOT the computer. What does that mean?  All of the timing and control signal is handled within the DMX interface and doesn’t rely on the computers processor to do the thinking. This is a huge advantage in the DMX interface!

There are two versions of the MagicDMX interface that will be available, the MagicDMX Basic for users that wish to get familiar with the MagicQ control software and the MagicDMX Full for experienced and users looking for more control and functions.

Pricing and availability has not yet been released, but I have heard that ChamSys just might have the MagicDMX on display and demo in their stand at ProLight + Sound this week in Frankfurt Germany.

#ProLight + Sound 2010 #PLS2010 First Round of Photos are in

With a little help from my good friend Peter Kirkup from Zero 88, we have photos from the show floor of ProLight + Sound in Frankfurt Germany.  The show opened at 9am this morning local time and has seen some great foot traffic and exciting new products.  All of which I have been writing about this entire month!

Peter has been kind enough to send me the first round of photos of the show with some great shots of the new products announced and shown on the floor. I’ll be adding more and more photos through out the day and through the rest of the show as they come in.  If you are on Twitter, be sure to follow the search string #PLS2010 and #ProLight.  If you can read German, all the better!

If we are lucky, Peter will “produce” another excellent trade show video like he did at LDI 2009 in Orlando Florida!

Thanks Peter!!

#ProLight + Sound Releases iPhone App #PLS2010

All month long I have been writing about new and exciting things that are being announced and shown at the ProLight + Sound Show in Frankfurt Germany this week.  Well, it looks like ProLight + Sound has something to announce themselves!

On this, the first day of ProLight + Sound, Messe Frankfurt just released their iPhone app of the show! Seems like every trades how these days is coming out with their own iPhone app to help attendees navigate and find information about the show and I love it!  The app gives attendees the ability to locate an exhibitor by searching for their name or by booth location.  The app even has a Gelandeplan, or Ground Plan of the show to help navigate the large show floor.

Just like any trade show app should have, the ProLight + Sound app list events and sessions that are being offered at the show and gives the info about it and location. Find something you like or want to attend or see?  Add it to your Favoriten or Favorite’s right with in the app for quick reference!

The app is a great alternative to the traditional printed trade show guide as it is one less thing to carry, plus the app is searchable.  Unlike a printed trade show guide where you have to hut and search for what you are looking for.

ProLight + Sound did a fantastic job with the app and makes me wish I was at the show even more now!  The app is a FREE download from all countries of the iTunes App Store. If you are at the show, be sure to head over to the App Store on your iPhone or iPod Touch and download the FREE ProLight + Sound app!

Barco/High End Welcomes Intellaspot XT-1 at ProLight + Sound

Barco/High End Systems just announced their offerings at ProLight + Sound this morning. One of the new offerings form the company is the new Intellaspot XT-1.  They also announced a new hybrid switcher and mixer for video/ lighting controller, the SDI-DMX Mixer Pro. Here is more from the press release.

Two new product announcements round out Barco’s new offerings at the 2010 Pro Light and Sound expo. First is the SDI-DMX Mixer Pro, a hybrid switcher that offers users the ability to switch, mix and matrix four video inputs to four video outputs — directly from any DMX lighting controller. Today’s controllers are required to interface with an ever-increasing number of sources and destinations, such as DL.3s, DML-1200s, Axon media servers, cameras, projectors and screens. To ease and simplify the overall control task, the new SDI-DMX Mixer Pro places the power of video switching and crossfades directly into the lighting designer’s hands.

The second and most important product announcement is the brilliant new intellaspot XT-1, an advanced lighting fixture from Barco that’s designed to set a new benchmark in price and performance for mid-market customers. As the industry’s newest professional moving luminaire, the intellaspot XT-1 follows last year’s successful introduction of Cyberlight 2.0. The intellaspot XT-1 offers remarkable innovations in optics, lamp configurations, high lumen output, energy efficiency, zoom range, and overall feature set — all at a highly economical price point. The intellaspot XT-1 is slated for release at the end of Q2.

Photos and prices have not been announced on either of the two new products. They are on display in Barco/High Ends stand at ProLight + Sound this week.  If you are attending the show in Frankfurt Germany, be sure to stop by and snag some pictures to share.

UPDATE:

Looks like Barco/High End just posted a short video and more information on the Intellaspot XT-1 on their web site – www.barco.com

Rumor Mill: Something up Barco’s Sleeves for ProLight + Sound

Like I said earlier, ProLight + Sound is just around the bend and all the exhibitors are leaking like a sieve.  Over the weekend I heard from a very reliable source deep with in the Barco family that Barco too has a number of new products to announce and show off at ProLight + Sound in Frankfurt Germany later this week.

We will be showing many enhancements, upgrades and new products geared towards strengthening the digital lighting and moving luminaire product lines.

That is literally all I got.  What does it mean?  Has that engineering genius, Richard Belliveau from High End come up with something revolutionary… AGAIN? Is Barco planning to announce a new product from their recently purchased LED and video division of Element Labs? I am hounding my source for more details and will hopefully hear something before the show begins on Wednesday.

Update: ADB Lighting HATHOR Desk PHOTO

I got a lovely little surprise in my inbox after coming back from lunch.  Looks like a reader has seen the HATHOR console or possibly knows some one at ADB lighting to be sending this along.  What can we tell from this photo?  It seems as though the codenamed HATHOR desk coming from ADB Lighting has at least one integrated touchscreen and has the ability to record, look and chaser.  All good qualities of a desk! What else… not much, what do you think?

I guess we’ll just have to wait till next week at ProLight + Sound to see more of the desk.

Martin Has Even More Coming at ProLight + Sound

This week has been all about Martin’s rumored new control surface which is being officially announced next week at ProLight + Sound.  It all started with a little video and then some more details about the desk.  Well, it looks like that is not all that Martin is announncing next week.  They have a couple more things up their sleeves.

Fro the teaser intro on Martin’s web site, Martin claims that the competition will have to take this one laying down and will be shocked at the news. Here is a line up of the products Martin is preparing to announce.

  • 4 new moving heads in the MAC range
  • 2 new LED video panels
  • 2 new indoor & outdoor LED striplights
  • 3 new indoor & outdoor LED luminaires
  • 3 new controller solutions
  • 1 new Jem smoke machine

Add them up and that comes to 15 new products being announced at ProLight + Sound for Martin! We’ll just have to wait till next week to see what the other 14 new products are.  Stay tuned!

Rumor Confirmed: ADB Lighting to Preview New Desk at ProLight + Sound

ADB Lighting out of Belgium is preparing to preview a “new generation control desk” as ProLight + Sound next week in Frankfurt Germany. ADB will be showing of a prototype of their multi-modal lighting and video flagship desk codenamed HATHOR.

So what makes this new desk so revolutionary? Here is what little ADB is saying about the desk thus far.

Advanced features include a graphics based user interface with support for up to eight multi-touch screens, advanced luminaire and fixture tracking facilities, state of the art lighting cue transfer control, flexible user configuration and customization, and unlimited capacity and full scalability.

The new controller is a professional theatre and television studio ‘concept’ desk that will be the flagship of the ADB lighting controller range, integrating control of conventional luminaires, moving lights, matrixes, LED, video and architectural control embracing all available protocols.

Looks like ADB is holding this one close as they are not even releasing a photo of the concept desk.  If you are attending ProLight + Sound next week, make sure to stop by the ADB Lighting stand at B36, Hall 11.1.  Maybe by that time, ADB will update their web site, www.adblighting.com with more information.

Robe Launching 11 New Products at ProLight + Sound

Robe Lighting is kicking of the year with 11 new products being launched next week at ProLight + Sound 2010 in Frankfurt Germany. Robe is expanding their ROBIN series of moving lights by adding 6 new fixture while also increasing their LED line up of fixtures by adding to the LEDForce series of products.

ColorBeam 2500E AT™

Following the phenomenal success of Robe’s ColorBeam 700E AT, a brand new high powered ColorBeam 2500E AT™ fixture is launched – and becomes the most powerful moving head yet to be designed and produced by Robe.

ColorBeam 2500E AT™ delivers an exceptionally bright and intense beam light output, and is designed for the large scale applications where extremely powerful tight beam-effect fixtures are required. A Multi-step zoom facility provides variable beam size from between 1.5 and 10 degrees. Rotating gobos and rotating prisms can be used to create spectacular mid-air effects and there is also full CMY/CTO and variable frost for creating fabulous washing effects in a wide variety of colours.

This very exciting product has been developed in response to feedback from designers and specifiers of all types, and is in a class of its own. It uses a compact high-pressure Philips MSR Gold 1500 FastFit metal halide lamp and has a dichroic glass reflector for maximising the light efficiency.

ColorSpot 1200E AT Profile™

The Profile version of Robe’s flagship ColorSpot 1200E AT series drew a lot of interest from theatre and TV market after its preview at the last PLASA show. On top of many the features and functions of the ColorSpot 1200E AT it has inbuilt modular framing shutters that enable the fixture to be used like any standard profile discharge lightsource, when very precise framing and pin-pointing of objects and areas onstage is required. For full flexibility, the framing shutter module uses 4 rotating blades, and the final framed image can also be rotated. A newly included linear variable frost allows smooth scene transitions and blends.

ROBIN® 600E Spot

The ROBIN 600E Spot has an incredibly bright light output – thanks to a special optical system and new Philips 575W discharge lamp it is giving the same or higher output than 700W fixtures on the market today, which makes it also a super energy-efficient. The very strong light-output can be maximised by using ROBE‘s unique HotSpot Control system together with the linear iris to create very powerful beam effects. The hot spot intensity is even brighter than that of 1200W fixtures!

An innovative patented cooling system ensures the best lamp operating temperatures and allows DMX controlled noise reduction. Users have complete control of all features on this fixture, making it ideal for environments where noise levels are critical and light output requirements are high. The lightsource is a brand new compact high-pressure metal halide Philips MSR Gold 575/2 MiniFastFit lamp, just launched at the Frankfurt show.

ROBIN® 600E Wash

The ROBIN 600E Wash also features a fantastic light output and lower power requirements – thanks to the new 575W lamp and optimized optical path comprising of carefully selected components. A unique silent control system enables users to carefully adjust the desired noise levels while maintaining the best lamp operating temperatures, due to the newly patented lamp cooling system. All “top hat” accessories are compatible with the new ROBIN 600E Wash fixture.

ROBIN® 600E Beam

The ROBIN 600E Beam has an amazing linear iris ranging between 1 and 6.5 degrees. By implementing this feature over a wider range, users can have full control over the beam size. It has also enabled the provision of more gobos in the gobo wheels for customizable beam shaping. Two ‘black-hole’ positions are available for a full and fast blackout in dark-sensitive environments. The extended focusing range also allows for very precise focusing, starting with the closer distances.

Robe’s ROBIN ‘Classic’ series offers all the functionality and quality engineering of the ROBIN brand in a compact and cost-effective package ideal for multiple applications.

ROBIN® 300 Beam Classic

The Robin 300 Beam Classic uses a Philips MSD Gold 300/2 Mini FastFit lamp and has a beam angle of 1.5 °– 6.5 °, complete with dichroic glass reflector for maximising the light output. There is a colour wheel with 7 replaceable ‘Slot&Lock’ dichroic filters, plus both static and rotating gobo wheels. A variable frost effect ensures a smooth transition in effect from a beam light to a regular wash light and there is also full dimming, variable strobe effect and pan/tilt of 540/260 degrees. The lamp is a compact high-pressure metal halide Philips MSD Gold 300/2 MiniFastFit.

ROBIN® 300 Spot Classic

This fixture has a host of specially designed modular features including a 12°–36° zoom, colour wheel, rotating gobo wheel, colour/gobo wheel, rotating prism and many others. Up to 24 colour mixes can be achieved with a combination of the colour and colour/gobo wheels.

ROBIN® 300 Wash Classic

This is a flexible, lightweight, silent fixture with a zoom range of 10 °– 35 °. The compact dimensions of the ROBIN 300 Wash Classic make it easy to conceal in smaller spaces and for more discreet installations, whilst providing an extremely efficient light output and a stunning colour range from the gentlest of pastels to the richest of saturates. The enhanced CMS system mixes real colour correction quickly and accurately. The 7+1 colour wheel with its easily replaceable magnetic positions can spin rainbow effects at high and low speeds.

Light4ce

Robe uses its considerable expertise and resources in LED manufacture to launch Light4ce – a new series of LED products. LEDForce LED PARs have been developed to complement and/or replace conventional PARs in clubs, installations, rental applications and any other market needing a true “workhorse” fixture. Bringing all the advantages of low power, LEDForce products are virtually maintenance free and have a massively longer life expectancy than conventional PARs.

LEDForce 7™ RGB/RGBW

This unit utilises a new compact tri-colour and quad-colour LED technology driven by a 7 x 3 in 1 RGB LED or a 7 x 3 in 1 RGBW LED multichip, all in a tough small housing.
The fixture features a very bright beam, smooth homogenised colour mixing with no pixelating or multi-colour shadows.

LEDForce 18 eXterior™ RGB/RGBW & LEDForce 18™ RGB/RGBW
