Robe’s the ONE… Everything You’ll Ever Need?

Way back in October of last year, Robe launched their latest innovation, the ONE, or T1.  Robe made a bold statement saying that the ONE is the only fixture you’ll ever need for theatre, tv and touring. How so? The ONE has SO many features built in, it can be used any where.  Precision Optics, CTO, Ultra-smooth dimming, plus & minus green control, shutters, gobos… AND MORE.

Learn more about the ONE from Robe’s Press Release

Robe’s latest luminaire, the T1 Profile, is specifically designed to fulfill the challenging requirements of three very diverse disciplines – theatre, television and touring – in one comprehensive fixture.

The revolutionary new MSL (Multi-Spectral Light) LED light source is impressively bright, yet the T1 Profile is full of theatrical subtlety.

With CMY color control, and a radical new custom color creation system and wide ranging CCT control from 2700K to 8000K, all variations of color are possible!

The precise needs of theatrical dimming are catered for with Robe’s ultra-smooth 18-bit dimming system, while the high CRI provides the natural and harmonious skin tones so fundamental to theatre and television / film applications.

For television work, there are other features like a plus / minus green channel and a special flicker-free management for use with multiple vision systems and recording formats.

All this is combined with accurate framing shutters, a dynamic focus-tracking zoom, variable frosts, bespoke breakup and aerial gobos, animation wheel and prism, offering total control for finessing and fine-tuning the most demanding of designs for theatre, television and touring.

Robe Lighting Launches Newest Pointe, The MegaPointe

This has been an exciting Labor Day Weekend for the Lighting World! At Midnight, Tuesday September 5th, 2017 Central European Timezone, Robe dropped some MEGA news on the entertainment lighting industry.  Lucky for the US, Midnight CET equals 7pm EST!  Robe added a brand new moving light to their already impressive Pointe lineup of fixtures, the MegaPointe. Before you read on into the press release, take a 5 minute coffee break and check out the video below.

MegaPointe – The global launch from ROBE lighting on Vimeo.

More from the Press Release:

Robe goes Mega tomorrow morning with the global launch of its much anticipated new multi-functional moving light fixture … the MegaPointe!

This hugely innovative new “reference point” and landmark product is revealed worldwide on www.robe.cz from midnight tonight – 12.00 a.m. Tuesday 5th September 2017 Central European Timezone (CET).

Just click on the MEGA icon ..

This follows a series of eye-catching and intriguing teaser videos “Now there is MEGA” which have generated a huge amount of excitement globally throughout lighting and visual communities.

MegaPointe is set to define new standards and expectations in moving light technology … taking the original concept of the all-in-one fixture … to a whole new level.

Utilizing an exclusive 470W short-arc lightsource, Robe’s diligently crafted MegaPointe optics produce phenomenally bright parallel beams, incredible spot gobo projections, together with super-quick movement, smooth CMY colour mixing and a multitude of effects available for splitting and shaping the light in Spot, Beam or Wash modes.

The zoom ranges from 1.8 to 21 degrees in Beam mode – tight, powerful and punchy, and goes from 3 to 42 degrees in Spot mode with crystal clear high-clarity output through a 150 mm diameter front lens, with a stunning total lumen output of 20.375 and an impressive CRI of over 80.

Inventive, different in-air projections can be created using the new Effects Engine, pre-loaded with 12 dynamic beam and flower effects, and can be further finessed using the beam shaper which can emulate framing shutter effects and create rectangular shapes as well as being rotatable and indexable.

Utilising the ‘light’ and medium’ frost filters with any combination of colours from the CMY mixing system produces a beautiful, smooth, even wash coverage.

There is a static 14-slot plus open gobo wheel fitted with glass gobos for precision surface projections and exciting in-air impressions, and a second wheel contains 9 rotating, indexable and replaceable gobos.

These can be combined with a variable speed, bi-directional animation wheel which can be used in conjunction with any of the gobos or on its own to enhance or produce exceptionally subtle and detailed effects and projections.

A remote adjustable hot-spot control can further influence the appearance of the lightsource, and there is yet more versatility with a series of pre-programmable ‘random’ strobe and pulse effects.

In keeping with Robe’s commitment to smaller-brighter-lighter fixtures … It weighs only 22Kgs (48.5lbs)!

MegaPointe draws on Robe’s expertise as a premium moving light manufacturer and has been developed by the R ‘n’ D team working in close collaboration with valuable input from lighting professionals to develop another outstanding product.

Robe’s Pointe –- revolutionary at the time – was launched in 2013 and led the way as the first truly multi-functional moving light taking the industry by storm and established new standards of flexibility and choice for LDs, programmers and operators. It continues to be one of the company’s best-selling products.

MiniPointe was launched in 2015 to bring all the well-loved Pointe dynamics to small-to-medium applications … and now the family is completed with the MegaPointe, which takes everything up several notches with refined touches enhancements like CMY colour mixing and blistering brightness.

This multi-functional, multi-purpose luminaire is perfect for live concerts, festivals, EDM & dance extravaganzas, TV productions, outdoor spectaculars and all types of live events and permanent installations.

The first MegaPointes were live in action a week before the launch … on the Main Stage production lighting rig designed by Sander den Otter for Mysteryland 2017, the Netherlands’ oldest and most original dance music extravaganza this year staged over two days at Haarlemmermeerse Bos, Amsterdam, and produced by ID&T.

MegaPointes made a big impact on the main stage of the first ever New Horizons EDM / dance music event at Nürburgring, Germany, part of a production design by Andre Beekmans from NL based creative practice, The Art of Light.

The launch is supported by worldwide product demonstrations and roadshows via Robe’s subsidiaries and distributor network – so everyone has a good chance to see the product for real, and the units are ready for immediate shipping.

A full list of international MegaPointe events is available on www.robe.cz

MegaPointes will appear on their first international trade show at PLASA London, September 17th – 19th, where visitors can catch a live version of the uber-cool video launch show.

Re-Post: 4Wall Lighting Lounge – Three Fixtures I’m Dying to Use In 2016

three_fixtures-2016-banner

Have you heard of the Lighting Lounge over on UsedLighting.com4Wall Lighting started a blog a while ago that focuses on different aspects of the industry along with some industry news.  They recently asked me to write a blog post about three fixtures I am looking forward to using in 2016.  Here are some excerpts from the original post which you can find here.

Aryton MagicDot-R

Ayrton Lighting has made a huge impact in the entertainment lighting industry.  The company has been around for years. It was just four short years ago that Ayrton made a re-insurgence into the industry with the introduction of the MagicPanel 602, a moving head fixture with 36 individually controllable 15 watt RGBW LED array. The 6 x 6 LED may be impressive, but the continuous and unlimited pan and tilt of the fixture is what made the industry take note.

Robe Lighting VIVA

In the past couple of years Robe Lighting has stepped up their R&D in LEDs and has released some fairly impressive LED based moving heads.  The latest LED based moving head from the Czech company is the VIVA.  It’s a lightweight moving head that uses a 270W white light LED engine.

ETC Source 4WRD

In mid-January, ETC released yet another bombshell on the industry with the introduction of their latest LED product, the Source 4WRD.  Professionals at every level of the business took notice of ETC’s latest offering as it has a large impact on a segment of the market that wants LEDs but maybe cannot afford new technologies.

To read the entire post and my thoughts about these new products and why I look forward to using them, visit the UsedLighting.com Lighting Lounge.  Share your thoughts on these three new devices as well as new products that you are looking forward to using.

Robe Introduces the BFML to the WORLD

Robe BMFL Spot 4918

Did you have a nice long Labor Day weekend? Just like all of the kids going back to school, I bet Tuesday was a tough one to get through.  Robe Lighting was kind enough to make watching videos during work hours acceptable by launching their latest product via their new web portal, Robe Premier. Did you join in with the other 11,000 people  around the world “working” at 2pm EST on Tuesday to see Robe CEO Josef Valchar introduce the BMFL? What did you think? Love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.

BMFL??? I bet your mind went straight to the gutter with that one no?  Before the launch I heard rumors of the name and that is right where my thoughts went! BMFL stands for Bright Multi-Functional Luminaire. The OFFICIAL name, the BMFL Spot. Here are some details from Robe on the BMFL.

The BMFL Spot has a custom light source designed for Robe and produces a staggering powerful 250,000 lux at 5 meters (or 16 feet) – no other product currently on the market can equal this output!

Despite its power and comprehensive feature set, it weighs just 36 kgs, (or 79 lbs)… and has a compact body profile. The lamp produces light at a CRI of 92, this combined with a refined optical system, 5 – 55 degree zoom, results in a crisp, high-quality fat beam that is truly homogenized and without a hotspot. The new, high definition color mixing technology can produce a full spectrum of colors. There are also two color wheels which include filters that can be utilized to adjust color temperature and improve the CRI of the white output in aging lamps. There are two rotating gobo wheels – each with six slot&lock gobo positions. There are also two Rotating Prisms. The Dual Graphic Wheels both focus within the same focal plane and the rotation and movement can be individually controlled and varied… to create ultra-cool, infinitely subtle special effects. The frost and dimming functions provide further effects. Three grades of Frost are available and the dimmer is exceptionally smooth with no distortion, so the full beam width is visible right up to the point at which it disappears. The strobe effect is authentic with up to 10 flashes per second! Aimed at long-throw applications, the newly patented Robe EMS (Electronic Motion Stabilizer) technology, enables the BMFL to absorb vibrations from audio outputs, truss movement, sprung or suspended floors, etc. The BMFL is a very powerful, feature-packed luminaire that will provide a real signature light source for any project.

Exciting right?  Want to check it out?  Robe is touring the WORLD with the fixture and is probably in a city near you. While additional details about the BMFL are lacking on Robe’s website. The product page does have the current world tour dates and location.  Check it out at www.robe.cz.

Robe to Launch Five New Products at Prolight + Sound 2011

ROBIN MMX Spot
This new fixture is the new generation of 1200W Spot fixtures and the first in a new series of Robe moving lights designed to be energy efficient and smaller in keeping with the ROBIN (Robe Innovative Technology). The MMX Spot is compact, lightweight and has a small base and expediently sized, and is expected to be a major hit with rental companies and installations alike.

Using the innovative Phillips MSR Platinum 35 lamp, and combined with a sophisticated optical system, the MMX Spot is a true equivalent of any 1200W Spotlight moving head on the market today. In some features, the MMX is as bright as a 1500W spotlight and at the same time energy saving – consuming about 30% less power than the current 1200W products.

ROBIN 300 LEDWash
Following the ROBIN 600 LEDWash, Robe’s fastest ever selling product, comes the 300 version which is even smaller and neater in construction, with all the features of the 600 at a highly competitive price.

This will be ideal for small installations and places where space is at a premium. There is the option to simulate tungsten lamp behavior when dimming and switching off, complete with ‘red effect’ and thermal delay. Made with the same Cree 10W multichip RGBW LEDs as the 600 LEDWash, it has all the fabulous colour mixing and homogenisation qualities of the 600, plus true whites with a selection of pre-programmed color temperatures   (2700, 3200, 4200, 5600 & 8000K).

CityFlex 48
A completely user configurable LED ‘batten’ consisting of 4 modules using the latest Cree 10W RGBW multichip LEDs. These customizable units have a strong and uniform light output and are suitable for any application. The unique design (patent pending) allows multiple lighting formats from one fixture – be it a compact floodlight format, traditional linear LED format or a variety of different angled options. The fixture´s incredible flexibility means previously unobtainable effects are now available ….. from a single unit.

Housed in a durable aluminum IP 65 rated casing, the CityFlex48 has excellent color mixing from a single-point-of-source with a definable pixel pitch.  A universal mounting system gives multiple rigging options for floor, wall or on to trussing. A separate quiet convection cooled control unit running via DMX or RDM allows easy setup via control display screens, while DMX and power lines can be daisy chained via Powercon connectors.

ROBIN 600 PureWhite
Following huge demand for high quality moving LED fixtures in the wake of  its ROBIN 600 LEDWash (RGBW), Robe launches the ROBIN 600 PureWhite, a white version for applications like TV, theatres, exhibitions and conferences and anywhere needing a high quality, low powered white light with all the features and functionality of a moving light – like pan/tilt & zoom etc.

There will be 3 versions – cool white (CW) at 6000K, warm white (WW) at 3200K and Smart White (SW), which is variable from 3200 – 6500K. Used as a traditional white light source, the ROBIN 600 PureWhite has the potential to dramatically reduce heat output in studios, emitting virtually no heat due to its superior cooling management. Costs will be further slashed because less AC will be required to keep studios at a comfortable temperature for everyone working.

The ROBIN 600 PureWhite features the same 3 rings of 10W Cree multichip LEDs as its color changing counterpart, a fully homogenized light engine with no shadows or pixelation, producing a beautiful smooth quality of light throughout the full beam path. The Cree multichip combined with Robe’s lens optimization has enabled perfect whites to be produced by the ROBIN 600 PureWhite series. Ring control, and dimming and other features and effects are all the same as the LEDWash 600 RGBW, making this a massively versatile ground breaking addition to Robe’s ROBIN range.

DigitalSpot 3500 DT
The new Robe DigitalSpot 3500 DT is a more powerful, enhanced version of the very successful DigitalSpot 3000 DT, retaining all the best loved features of the original unit, together with a host of new ones. Combining the technologies of a moving light and video projector, Robe produces another powerful tool for their Digital Series.

Features include:

  • BenQ MX 660 projector using TI® DLP® technology
  • Contrast Ratio of 5000:1
  • 3200 ANSI lumen light output
  • Options for DVI/VGA or SDI/ASI grabbing cards
  • Composite video input via BNC connector
