TheatreFace.com is Reviewing SeaChangers Nemo & Tungsten Fixture – Ask Your Questions NOW

Jacob Coakley, the Editor of Stage Direction Magazine started up a website almost a year ago for us theatre folks called TheatreFace.com.  As you might be able to tell from the site name, it is where theatre people can come together and talk about what we know and love… THEATRE!  Think of TheatreFace as that other social networking site that everyone is on, but just for us and minus Mafia Wars and Farmville, (THANK GOODNESS!).  Although, I would like to see Theatre Wars or Stagecraftville, that might be fun!

One neat thing that TheatreFace has done is organized gear reviews.  Month long gear reviews!  What happens is each month, a member of Theatre Face is sent a product to review.  The user puts it through some test and does everything they can think of to learn everything about the product.  They post their finds, but it doesn’t stop there.  The entire community on TheatreFace is called in and asked for their questions, test and anything else they can think of to learn more about the fixture.  How cool is that???

This months product that TheatreFace is reviewing is the SeaChanger plasma light fixture, the Nemo and the SeaChanger Tungsten Wash Fixture.  Stephen Ellison is leading the charge on this one and is asking for your questions, and test that you would like to see performed on the fixtures.  If you have ever wondered if these fixtures could do something, I HIGHLY encourage you to head over to TheatreFace.com and add your questions to the discussion.  The more we collaborate on these reviews, the more we all benefit and learn more about the products.

If you are not a TheatreFace member yet, don’t worry, registering for the site is a “Painless Process” and of course is FREE! Thanks Jacob for this great review process!  Love the site and of course I heart Stage Directions!

SeaChanger Improves the Tungsten SeaChanger Fixture

Fast speeds and more light output… YES PLEASE! SeaChanger just announced these updates to their tungsten color mixing fixture add-on to the ETC Source four.  Increased light output and fast color mixing, how can you go wrong?  Here is more from the official press release.

SeaChanger has improved upon its flagship product line, the SeaChanger Tungsten Fixtures. Through advanced optical engineering, the SeaChanger Tungsten products now have a flatter field, allowing 10% more light out of the fixture, and enables faster color transitions with new firmware.  The SeaChanger firmware upgrade greatly improves the “snap” transition time, with a full-speed, dual rotation that allows you to choose the shortest path to the color of your choice.  This still preserves the smooth, transition-free fades and silent operation that is the benchmark of the SeaChanger family of products.

Head over to SeaChangers web site, www.seachangeronline.com to learn more about the new and improved tungsten fixture.

Friday Flickr Lighting Porn – Jeremy Pivnick

This weeks randomly selected Friday Flickr Lighting Porn was added by SeaChanger to their Flickr account and added to the iSquint Friday Flickr Lighting Porn Pool.  The image above is from the Playhouse Production of The Marvelous Wonderettes which is still on tour through out the states. Jeremy Pivnick designed the lights for the production and use Ocean Thin Films SeaChangers to help give color options and fixture counts down.

I don’t know about you, but I am a sucker for a deep saturated color wash! I get chills just thinking about it!  If you want to see your lighting design work featured here on isquint, be sure to add your design photos to your flickr.com account and add them to the iSquint Friday Flickr Lighting Porn Pool.  Each Friday I randomly select a photo from the pool and feature it here.  If you haven’t done so already, stop by the pool and check out all of the great lighting design photos added by all the talented lighting designers.

NAB 2010 – Done and Gone

That’s it, that is all she wrote for NAB 2010 in Las Vegas.  The show floor closed down about five hours ago and things moved quick to get exhibitors out of the hall.  Some people were done in an hour, others will be there through the weekend with such massive booths to break down.

My time spent on the show floor was a wonderful experience, and a tiring on at that too!  With that show floor expanding across North, Central and South halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center and other off site locations, there was just not enough time in the day to walk the entire show floor. I was mainly stuck to central hall this year as that is where I was doing interviews in the SeaChanger booth along with all most all of the lighting exhibitors being located there as well.  Just walking the Central hall was quite the task, but still so worth it.

If you have any interest on top of lighting in broadcast, production, content creation and acquisition, you really must attend NAB next year!  There are devices from the beginning level all the way up to the HD production and broadcast level.  Seeing as I am still on the beginning level of video and audio acquisition, I was drooling over some of the latest and greats cameras, production equipment and tools. And remeber, this was just things that I saw in central hall! Who knows what I missed in the other halls!

Some of the great lighting products that I saw were mainly LED products.  It seems that everyone is “in the game” now with getting an LED product out on the market. While I would love to go on and on about them right now, I have to prepare for tonights dinner with the great folks at SeaChanger.  During the weekend and going on into next week I will be putting up some video’s I made during my time here at NAB along with more details and info about some of the new products coming to the market.

I also will be putting up some great interviews that I did in the SeaChanger booth with some lighting designers and of course, the SeaChanger Duck. I want to give a HUGE shout out to SeaChanger, especially Beth, Tom and Phil for bringing me to NAB to cover and do interviews on the show floor.  I had a blast here in Vegas and am so grateful for this opportunity! Even though SeaChanger brought me out to NAB, I really think you should look at the Nemo Plasma color mixing fixture.  All signs point to a great and cool fixture!

Make sure to mark your calendar for next years NAB Show, April 9-11 in Las Vegas!

NAB Show in Vegas This Week

This week brings the NAB Show or National Association of Broadcasters trade show in fabulous Las Vegas Nevada. I am here this week doing two things, covering the show for our friends and colleges in the TV and Film world. Hey, they have lighting needs too you know! And second, helping out some great friends by being some an air talent!

The fine folks at SeaChanger asked me to join them at NAB to to interview lighting designers from both the theatrical and tv/film world. We’ll be doing interviews all week long right in the SeaChanger booth for use on SeaChangers web site. Why interview folks like this on the show floor and not on a professional sound stage? Part of the draw with NAB is to show tv and film folks how to use and incorporate products into their news gathering efforts. SeaChanger plans on showing attendees and walker-bys just how effective the Nemo is in lighting for camera.

If you haven’t heard of the SeaChanger Nemo, it’s a Plasma light source that not only cuts energy use in over half, but last longer and is even brighter, and hey, it can dial in a specific color too! Rather then me keep drooling over the Nemo here, stop by the SeaChanger booth, C6844 in Vegas and we’ll let the Nemo prove it self!

Nautilus Makes SeaChangers Website

nautilusJust over a week ago, we got wind of some more information about the latest color mixing lighting fixture from SeaChanger, the Nautilus. SeaChanger has just recently added the Nautilus to their website with more details about the outdoor rated color mixing fixture.

The Nautilus is the latest in the SeaChanger line of dichroic color changers designed to deliver an energy-efficient class of high intensity lighting, using proven plasma technology. Nautilus is the first outdoor color engine with a LIFI® plasma source that delivers 10,000 lumens out of the fixture while using only 320 watts of power. The LIFI® source leads a new class of solid-state plasma light sources that combine the best features of solid-state electronics and full spectrum plasma emitters.  The results are long-life, energy efficiency and complete color spectrum for general and specialty lighting applications.

With a lamp life of 15,000 hours, Nautilus is the perfect solution for hard-to-reach installations, domes, atria and theme parks. The Nautilus has a CRI of 92, making it an ideal fixture for museum and gallery lighting. The weather-ready Nautilus, with an IP54 rating, is perfectly suited for lighting applications in theme parks, zoos, gardens and outdoor festivals.

Pricing and availability on the Nautilus has not been released yet, but we have heard from reliable sources that the Nautilus will be splashing down down at LDI this year in Orlando, FL.  If you are attending LDI, be sure to stop by SeaChangers booth, 321. Can’t wait till LDI to learn more about the Nautilus, visit SeaChangers website at www.seachangeronline.com.

SeaChanger Has a Leak, But Not the Nautilus

seachanger-new-nemo We received an interesting note from our leak deep with in the Largo Florida headquarters of SeaChanger with more information on the Newest Nemo Family member, the Nautilus.  Late last week we mentioned the Facebook announcement of the image that SeaChanger posted about the Nautilus.  Some eagle eyed readers pointed out that the image to the right looked a lot like the Tempest Lighting Storm outdoor enclosure.

Well, our leak has provided us with even more details:

The Nautilus is the latest in the SeaChanger line of dichroic color changers designed to deliver an energy-efficient class of high intensity lighting, using proven plasma technology. Nautilus is the first outdoor color engine with a LIFI® plasma source that delivers 10,000 lumens out of the fixture while using only 320 watts of power. The Nautilus has a CRI of 92, making it an ideal fixture for museum and gallery lighting. The weather-ready Nautilus, with an IP54 rating, is perfectly suited for lighting applications in theme parks, zoos, gardens and outdoor festivals. Using patented dichroic filter technology, Nautilus creates millions of rich and reproducible colors with white-to-full saturation color transitions in less than one second.  The filters provide higher transmission efficiency than gels and other materials, and are resistant to temperature and humidity. Versions are available to suit any application in architectural and landscape lighting.

Nautilus is a product of SeaChanger, based out of Largo, FL, who created a milestone in the evolution of theatrical lighting — the CYMxG color changer for ETC Source Four Ellipsoidals. Through unique, patented processes, the ESTA, LFI Innovation and NAB Mario Award winning SeaChanger line of fixtures yields the most robust and highest transmission dichroics available. You control the color, intensity and saturation of theatrical and studio lighting with unprecedented levels of precision and ease.

Look for more information to come with the official release of the Nautilus at LDI this year in Orlando Florida.  You can get more information about the Nautilus by visiting SeaChangers web site at www.seachangeronline.com.

Update: New SeaChanger Nemo Family Member

storm5050-nemo-compare

We have received a couple of notes about our post from yesterday about the new Nemo family member from SeaChanger.  Some smart cookies in the industry have noticed that the Tempest Lighting Storm 5050 outdoor enclosure is WAY close to the rendering of the new Nemo family member from SeaChanger.  Does is mean that Ocean Thin Films is not producing the enclosure?  Doesn’t sound that far off as they don’t produce the light fixture for the SeaChanger color engine.

We threw together a photo comparing the Tempest Lighting Storm 5050 enclosure and the new Nemo family member for you to decide. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section.
