Sneak Preview of ETC Selador Desire LED Fixture at USITT 2011

First things first, I love Novella Smith from ETC.  Novella always has a smile on her face and can charm you to death with her wonderful southern hospitality.  This is Novellas third video on iSquint and I hope it is not her last!

At USITT this year, ETC was giving a sneak peak to their brand new LED fixture, the Selador Desire fixture.  This is NOT a release, but a sneak peak at what the crew in Middleton have been working on for some time. The Selador Desire fixtures will be officially announced on April 7th.  Novella was kind enough to walk me through the new fixture and the Chipotle menu of the different options you have when ordering. I’ll let Novella take it over from here.  Thanks again Novella!

#LDI2010: Novella Smith Shows Off the ETC Selador Pearl LED Fixture

I love Novella Smith.  She has such a love for lighting and color!  It really shows when she is talking about her products, the Selador series of LED products from ETC.  Every time I see Novella, she has a HUGE smile on and can not wait to talk about color.  Her passion behind it really shows when she starts talking about mixing colors and using the Selador fixtures.  She mesmerizes you and gets you just as excited as she goes along.

This year at LDI was just as exciting.  Novella took a couple minutes out of her busy demo schedule to show me the latest Selador fixture, the Pearl.  It is an all white LED fixture with 3200k and 5600k LEDs in the same form factor as the rest of the 11″ Selador fixtures.  I’ll let Novella take it from here as she gives the best demo!

Thanks Novella, I miss you already!

ETC Adds to the Selador Series of LEDs: The Pearl

Where you at PLASA this year?  If you stopped by the ETC booth, you should have seen their latest Selador LED product, the Pearl.  ETC has added a white mixing unit to their popular Selador Series of LED products to help round out their offerings.

The Pearl takes advantage of the best traits of the newest white LED offerings. Combining simplicity of use and the powerful output of white LEDs, Pearl provides a bright white light for studio and stage. Pearl provides a carefully chosen mix of warm white (3200K) and cool white (5700K) LEDs that can be variably adjusted to provide just the right color temperature of white light – for the eye or the camera.

Pearl’s uses the same lens system as all the other Selador fixtures, giving the user incredible control over the field size – from a narrow, soft-edge 17° spot — to an extremely wide 80° field of light. Pearl produces 3460 lumens from less than 125 watts of power, so the power at your video location goes a whole lot further.

ETC will be rolling out an “official” press release in the near future and be showing the new Pearl at LDI next month in Las Vegas. Read more about the Pearl by visiting the super secret hidden page about the Pearl on their webite, www.etcconnect.com.

ETC “Officially” Introduce the Fire & Ice LED Fixtures

This was a little expected as ETC showed the Fire & Ice LED fixture back in November at LDI.  You may remember the YouTube video that was posted here on iSquint back at LDI of Novella Smith from ETC explaining the new fixtures.  But here is the “Official” announcement from ETC on the Fire & Ice LED fixtures.  Here is more from the Press Release.

Responding to demand for more of its Selador™ LED lighting fixtures, ETC is introducing two bold color-spectrum-specific versions: Fire and Ice. Fire features a warm wash of saturated reds, oranges and ambers never before seen from LEDs or gels. Ice provides, in one powerhouse fixture, a palette of brilliant deep indigo, blue, cyan, green (and a touch of red) — the gamut of blue washes that designers seek for their light plots. Integral to the new Selador Vivid™ line-up, Fire and Ice offer these rich, lush colors while equaling or exceeding the brightness performance of conventional tungsten PAR fixtures and saving dramatically on electricity.

In a typical color application, Fire and Ice fixtures produce more light and can consume less than 70 watts of power compared to their gelled tungsten counterparts at 575 watts.  Going beyond theater or broadcast-production use, Fire and Ice are smart green choices for any specialty lighting application. By replacing high-powered single-color warm and cool conventional fixtures in houses of worship or themed environments (amusement parks, restaurants, retail, casinos, etc.), facilities can reap bankable power and maintenance savings. Fire and Ice can be used for dramatic accent lighting as well, lowering power consumption in any installation.

You can download the photometrics and learn more about the new Fire & Ice LED Fixtures by visiting ETC’s web site at www.etcconnect.com.

iSquint Podcast – Episode 4 – ETC at LDI

iSquint PodcastIn this, the fourth episode of the iSquint Podcast, I got a chance to sit down with Anne Valentino and David Lincecum for ETC, (Electronic Theatre Controls) at LDI in Orlando Florida. Anne and David explained how the Eos family of desks were developed and how they listened to the lighting community to design the desks.  They also gave me a sneak peak at ETC’s next desk that is still in development which I hinted about a couple months ago and gave it a code name of ET.

We also talked about some of the new products that ETC introduced at LDI 2009.  The first being the Selador Fir and Ice LED fixtures. We talk about how the Fire and Ice will fit into the market place and how ETC developed and designed the new LED fixtures.  While at LDI, I sat down with Novella Smith and recorded a video of Novella explaining and demonstrating the new fixtures.

David and I also talked about the other new product line that ETC introduced at LDI 2009, the Rigging Division with the Prodigy Hoist System and the Quick Touch Controls.

Look for more interviews, tech talks and product reviews in future episodes of the iSquint Podcast.

ETC Fire and Ice LED – Novella Smith Explains

ETC Selador Fire and Ice LEDsYesterday I wrote about ETCs latest LED products, the Fire and Ice Seledor units. I had a chance to sit down with Novella Smith, the LED Market Manager for ETC and one of the original developers of the Seledor line-up of LED fixtures.

ETC not only talked but listened to Lighting designers to  develop the new line up of LED fixtures. Separately, the fixtures produce amazingly intense and super saturated colors not normally found in typical RGB, RGBW or even RGBA LED fixtures.  What is truly impressive is when combining the fixtures to produce a great looking white.

Just like all of the Selador fixture, the Fire and Ice fixtures utilize the 10 t0 90 degree vertical and horizontal lens to spread the beam how ever your heart desires.

ETC Enters the LED Lighting Market

seladorlogo_glam

We just received an email from the ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls) marketing department about ETC entering the LED lighting market place by announcing there acquisition of Selador product line. The Selador product line will now be distributed by ETC and renamed the Selador Series by ETC.

Here is the Press Release from ETC

In ETC CEO Fred Foster’s words, “We didn’t want to make a ‘me too’ RGB or RGBA product that didn’t provide the kind of significant innovation in lighting we strive for. With its exclusive x7 Color System™, the Selador product line produces a far superior quality of color and light to anything that we had seen before in LEDs. We also benefit from the brainpower of Selador’s Novella and Rob – great people who will join our ETC team.”

Selador’s x7 Color System seven-hue technology produces a light and color quality that conventional LED systems cannot duplicate. This unique color system produces bright broad spectrum whites and intense colors equally well, rendering pigments and skin tones in a more natural way. Read Rob Gerlach’s explanation of the x7 Color System difference on our Light Minds blog.

The Selador x7 Color System also finds its perfect counterpart in our ETC control-system offerings, which make control of LED fixtures easier, more direct and user friendly. We have already integrated color matching and HSI (hue, saturation and intensity) control of Selador products into the latest software releases of our Eos® and Congo® lighting control console lines. Our architectural systems will follow shortly, and we will continue to innovate in the areas of color management in these products.

Selador’s LED line-up includes the Paletta™ and Lustr™ products, just introduced at LDI 2008. Paletta fixtures’ unique blend of seven colors of LEDs was selected to provide the depth of color that designers are used to from their favorite saturated gels. The Lustr line uses a different blend of colors optimized for producing broad spectrum whites and tinted colors – solving the traditional LED problem of making people look unnatural.

ETC is also debuting the latest Selador product: the high-output color-mixing Vivid™ LED fixture series. The Vivid series combines the Selador x7 Color System with powerful K2 emitters from Luxeon™, for the highest output available. Vivid LED fixtures provide high brightness and intense colored lighting for much longer throws, while matching and blending with gel colors and tungsten fixtures.

Get the full product specs and details on our new Selador Series product pages.

You’ll also have a chance to see and demo our new Selador products in person at USITT and NAB!
