AirScan & AirTouch From Coolux Technology Showed at LondonLaunch

Check out this bit of awesomeness out of London from TMB and Coolux. We are getting closer and closer to “technology” that was shown off in movies from the 80’s.  Sooner or later we’ll catch up to our selves.   Here is more about this amazing technology from TMB’s press release:

Last month’s Londonlaunch:live networking and educational event at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea featured interactive displays by Universal Live.  The two-day event gave UK event planners and specifiers a look at the latest “digital canvas” technology.  “Londonlaunch:live is a typically brilliantly original London idea,” says keynote speaker and London Mayor Boris Johnson.

Featured in a dedicated room at the exhibit was AirScan by coolux.  A component of coolux AirTouch technology, AirScan infrared motion sensing operates with coolux Widget Designer PRO for completely touch-free interactivity.  Full HD video presentations of any type or size can be fully controlled by the user’s arm gestures, providing a completely interactive experience.  Just a few AirTouch system features include:  Large-scale scanning range, up to 10m / 30ft.; advanced motion stabilization; dynamic gesture menu programming for unlimited menu page configurations; and much more.

Avolites Introduces Tiger Touch Lighting Console

Avolites Tiger Touch Lighting DeskDuring LDI 2009, I got a chance to stop by and take a close look at Avolites latest lighting desk, the Tiger Touch.  The Tiger Touch is a “hybrid” of the of powerful Diamond 4 functionality coupled with the friendly Pearl interface. The desk features a wide screen touch interface that provides an ever evolving software skin which can be adapted to the programmers style and layout preferences.

The Tiger Touch Lighting Desk utilizes Avolites latest Operating System, the TITAN.  TITAN has been created as a “Clean Sheet”. It’s fresh, clear design is fast and elegant to use. Avolites will continue to develop the TITAN Operating System and these benefits are continuously offered to users ongoingly at no extra charge under Avolites policy of “Free Upgrades for the Life of the Console”.

Some of the features included in the Tiger Touch and the TITAN OS:

  • Fixture Exchange
  • Fixture Copy
  • Attribute Timing on Cues
  • Head Up Display with Visualizer
  • iPhone/iPod Touch Remote Control

The Tiger Touch Lighting Desk offer 4 universes of DMX out directly o the board with the ability to speak Art-Net nativily over Ethernet and up to 12 universe of DMX. The Tiger Touch seems to be a great tour console with the 4universes of output giving us 2,048 addresss to play with plenty of conventionals and moving lights.  With it’s small form factor, just 29.5″ x 24″ x 12″ and weighing in at 66lbs in a flight case, the Tiger Touch Lighting Desk might be an option.  I am still waiting to hear on price as the desk has not begun to ship yet through TMB, the US distributor.

TMB ProShell RJ45 BackShell

ProShell-NoCap-600x175

We were recently on the TMB website doing some research and came across a new product called the ProShell RJ45 BackShell as pictured above.  While this entire device just looks like another RJ45 connector, just beefed up, it is in fact not that!  The patented ProShell converts any conventional RJ45 connector into a robust and road worthy connector capable of repeated connections while maintaining mechanical and electrical integrity.

Here are some features listed from the web site:

  • Fits standard attachable RJ45 connectors
  • Strain relief holds cable securely
  • Protects RJ45 locking mechanism (latch) from breaking off
  • Profile fits high-density hubs and switches. Will not block adjacent ports
  • Label indent fits standard size label for easy marking
  • Color coded; available in all resistor colors
  • Completely removable and reusable
  • Shaped to easily pull longer cables through nested cables
  • Optional cap protects contacts when longer cables are dragged during coiling

At a retail price of $5.60 for a pack of 2 for the ProCell RJ45 BackShell with no cap, these are a cheap addition to any tour where RJ45 cables are pulled night after night.  For more information and to purchase your ProShell BackShell, visit TMB’s website at www.TMB.com.

amBX UK Ltd Preps Debut of amBIENT XC Lighting Controller

amBIENT_XC_frontIf you plan on attending PLASA Show next month in London, be sure to stop by the amBX UK Ltd. booth to preview their latest lighting control system, the amBIENT XC. The one line that has peaked our interest from the press release is…

The product is billed as a radically changing the way in which light and space are designed to create immersive entertainment experiences using light, video and sound.

We are not quite sure how this is a radical change of how lighting and video systems are controlled as it does not mention more then the amBient XC is a stand-alone DMX512 controller powered by amBX technology. The company, amBX is claiming that this new technology is going to be the new standard in creating and delivery an immersive entertainment experience.

The amBIENT XC has a variety of AMbx modes pre built into the box for some “standard” LED effects such as Fire Flame, Pacific Tide, (personally, we would like to see an ATLANTIC tide), Warm Breeze and others that are also customizable.  All of these modes can be executed and changed or modified by touchscreen on the front of the box.  There is also some downloadable PC design tools for greater control options and configuration.

From what we have read and seen on the website, the amBIENT XC is a pretty cool, self contained DMX playback unit.  It can be a great option for night clubs, restaurants and other architectural spaces that have LED lighting and want to have “effects” running with the tap of a screen.

The amBIENT XC is being distributed in the US by TMB.  Since the amBIENT XC has not be “offically” announed yet, we can’t find a retail price.  For more information on the amBIENT XC, visit amBX’s web site at www.ambx.com.
