The RSC Lightlock Wins ESTA Rock Our World Award

When I read that title, it made me think a minute… Isn’t the Lightlock suppose to do the opposite, keep our world from rocking?  Stupid joke, sorry.  But honestly, Doesn’t the RSC Lightlock deserve almost every award out there?  How did a mover live front of house on a hung pipe with out this?  Those fellas at RSC are genius, thanks for the Lightlock and congrats guys! Here is more from the Press Release:

The annual ESTA Dinner and Awards Ceremony was the setting for the RSC Lightlock to receive its most recent accolades from entertainment industry leaders. Nominated in the best new product category for ESTA’s Rock Our World Awards, the RSC Lightlock was chosen as the product which had the greatest impact on our industry in the last year.

The RSC Lightlock is a motion stabilizing device for moving head lighting fixtures, allowing them to be installed with a minimum of rigging equipment, removing the need for battens or trusses in the system. Its stabilization also allows the RSC Lightlock to be used with pantographs and motorized battens without the inherent movement caused by the moving head fixtures.

In its third year, this Rock Our Worlds program has no real rules. The panel of judges, some of the best known people in our industry, has sole discretion on the number of awards to bestow and the categories to use. This year’s judges included Seth Jackson, Tom McPhillips, Bill Sapsis, Brad Schiller, and Jim Tetlow. This group saw fit to select the RSC Lightlock from a group of nominees which included products and projects such as the RevEAL LED Color Wash, the Dee and Charles Theatre build, the chandelier install at the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, and the Shanghai Expo Opening Ceremony. To be named one of the winners for this year’s award demonstrates how revolutionary the RSC Lightlock truly is.

The 2009 Most Innovative Lighting Product Picked By You

Total Structures LightLockA couple of weeks before 2009 ended, I put a poll up to let the lighting industry choose the Most Innovative Lighting Product introduced in 2009. Most times when it comes to determining these types of awards or credits, there are a couple of people in the back room picking out the nominee’s and then the winner. My goal was to change that.

I asked you, the lighting community at large to weight in and see which product you thought was the most innovative lighting product of 2009. And boy did you guy respond! With over 250 entries in and 10 product to choose from, there was a clear front runner from the beginning.

While I only listed 10 products, I mentioned that if you felt there was a product that deserved to be nominated to please list it in the comments section.  There were only a couple of products added and some really neat ones that I didn’t even know about which I’ll get to later.

With out further ado, the winner of the 2009 Most Innovative Lighting Product chosen by you is…

The RSC LightLock

Congratulations to RSC and Total Structures, the US distributor of the LightLock. Not only did the RSC LightLock win the 2009 Most Innovative Lighting Product of the year, but also the Best Debuting Product Award in the Rigging and Staging category at LDI 2009. On top of that, when the RSC LightLock was first shown at the 2008 PLASA Show in a prototype form, the RSC LightLock won the only PLASA Gold Award that year.

PLASA09: The First Day

It is September 13 and the first day of the PLASA Show at Earls Court in London England.  At the time of release, the show floor has been open for 3 hours already. We have not heard much yet from any of the exhibitors or attendees yet.

rsc_lightlock_cadWhat we have confirmed is that Total Structures and Total Solutions will be manufacturing and distributing the RSC LightLock.  Total Structures sent out a late tweet Saturday night, about 9 hours before the doers opened at Earls Court to make the announcement.

PLASA09: Update on RSC LightLock

rsc_lightlockThe other day we mentioned the pre show announcement of the Royal Shakespeare Companies LightLock device for hanging moving lights.  After speaking with a couple of our fellow entertainment news outlets we have some updated information.

The RSC LighLock was actually introduced last year at PLASA08 but only as a prototype.  Since then it seems that the RSC has been refining and developing it for mass production.

So what is the deal with it being re-introduced this year at PLASA09?  From the looks of it, the RSC has found a partner to manufacture the LockLight for them.  From putting mumblings together that we have heard around the industry and following various twitter feeds, we are pretty confident to say that Total Structures from California will be manufacturing the LightLock for RSC.  We are expecting this announcement to happen the first day of the PLASA show at Earls Court.
