Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Whistling on Stage

whistleI hope that everyone had a lovely holiday thus far.  It was totally relaxing for myself!  As for presents… Let’s just say I was a good boy this year!  More about the presents later and on to this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia.  I am going Old School here and have a great question about theatre history and not just specifically lighting related. So, this weeks question is:

Why are we not allowed to whistle while on stage?

Know why?  As with almost every Tuesday Twitter Trivia Question, Direct Message me @isquint through twitter.  First one in with a brief explanation, wins! Remember, you only have 140 character to explain! Good Luck everyone!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – DMX Address Count

Light BeamAs I missed last weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia due to just plan forgetting about it, I thought I would come back with an easy question this week.  Well, rather then it being a trivia question, it is more like a quest.  A quest to find the answer.

We all know that moving lights and multi-parted devices are taking up more and more DMX address to operate.  With the introduction of LED fixtures and LED matrices, DMX addresses just keep getting eaten up.  So this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question is:

What single device uses the most DMX address to operate? Please give a Specific manufacture and product name.

There is no definitive correct answer to this weeks question.  More of, what do you think.  Rather then Direct Messaging me your response, leave it in the comments section of this article so everyone can benefit.

Have a Happy and Safe Holidays and New Year everyone!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Lamp Life

Tungsten LampWelcome to another Tuesday Twitter Trivia Question.  This week I am back on lamps.  Their is a lot of buzz in the industry right now about energy efficiency with LEDs.  Ad to that the economical situation that the United States is in, everyone is looking ways to save money. Purchasing almost any type of LED fixture right now is a huge investment up front, but can pay off over time.  Since most of us have trouble with that initial investment, how can we extend out budgets with our current lights.

So this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question is about tungsten lamps and how to extend them past the lamp hour rating set forth by the manufacture.

Name a way to extend the lamp hour rating of a tungsten lamp.

This week I am going to change it up and ask that you provide your answer in the comment section of this article rather then direct message through twitter.  I will accept both methods, but leaving a comment here, everyone will benefit from your response.

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Twist-Lock Winner

L6-15 ConnectorYesterdays Tuesday Twitter Trivia question was any easy one yes?  Well, before I announce a winner, lets learn a little more about the connector.

I received a bunch of direct messages stating that the image from yesterdays Tuesday Twitter Trivia was the NEMA L6-15 connector.  Yes, that is correct. The L6-15 connector is a 15A, 250V connector that is most often used for 208V power for moving lights. What is the distinguishing trait about the L6-15, the ground pin has a nub that is pointed out, rather then in. Now, let’s throw a twist into the mix.

Can you name the 120v NEMA connector, L6-15 with the same in configuration?

If you can, Direct Message me @isquint or email me at info@isquint.net. Answer this question correct, you not only win one of the last remaining SeaChanger 2009 LDI Ducks, but also a little something special from me.

NOW

The winner of yesterdays Tuesday Twitter Trivia question is Stephen J. Moore, (@smoorecrux) from Minneapolis, Minnesota. You can see more of Stephen lighting design work at his website, www.stephenjmoore.com.

If you have the answer you know what to do.  If you don’t, please Direct Message your response to @iSquint via twitter.  The first person in the the correct answer wins.

Good Luck!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia Winner – History of LDI

Previous LDI Show FloorSince the LDI Show is right around the corner, I dedicated this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question to one of the industry best trade shows.  This weeks TTT went back in the way back machine and asked:

What year was the first LDI Show and in what city did it take place?

This one required just a little digging on the internet.  But if you are an LDI vet, you may have been able to pull this from memory.

This weeks TTT winner is @erosing or better known as Ethan Rosing of Madison Wisconsin… GO BADGERS! Yes, I am a cheese head too.

Ethan came back with the correct answer to both parts of the TTT with the first LDI show being held in 1988 in Dallas Texas at the Infomart.  Congrats Ethan and thanks to everyone for playing the Tuesday Twitter Trivia and for reading iSquint!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Texas Winner

Cowboy HardhatWe just heard back from our winner of this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia about Which Texas rep introduced the bill about requiring Lighting Designers to be licensed.

This weeks winner is Nik Robalino.  Nik was the first in with the correct answer, Texas Rep, Wayne Smith from District 128 or Harris County that introduced Texas House Bill 2649 .

Jimonlight and many others from Texas did a great job covering this and making sure the word got out about what Texas was trying to do.  With their help, the lighting community worked together and let the Texas Legislature know that the bill just will not work. It just shows how close knit a community the lighting world is.

Nik won my faithful Cowboy Hardhat back from my tour days. Wear it well! You can follow Nik on twitter @Nikgwolf.

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Deep In The Heart of Texas

Cowboy HardhatThis weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia has a theme due to the great prize this week.  For a couple of years, I worked on Load-ins for a couple of tour and was required to wear a hard hat. A good friend from Texas gave me the best present back then, a Cowboy Hardhat. Since I do not tour anymore, it is time to pass on the the Cowboy Hardhat.

This Week Tuesday Twitter Trivia Question is:

Which Texas State Representative Authored and introduced a Bill earlier this year requiring lighting designers in Texas to be licensed as either electrician, architect, engineer, landscape architect, or interior designer.

Please give the persons name and district they represent in Texas.

As with all Tuesday Twitter Trivia Contest, please Direct Message us your answer through twitter @iSquint. The first person in with the correct answer wins.

Good Luck!

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – Badger Alum

This weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia is coming a little later in the day to give the west coast a chance to enter. Also this week, we are going back in time to when we all first started learning the basic’s of lighting. If you remember anything from your days in college learning about lighting, this is the person to remember.

So, with our further ado, here is this weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question:

This Badger Alum went on to become one of the first lighting professors at an Ivy League School and developed a method of stage lighting that is taught in almost every lighting 101 class. Please name this person and Ivy League School.

As with every Tuesday Twitter Trivia here on iSquint, please respond with your answer via Direct Message @iSquint. The first person with the correct answer wins a gem from the good old days in college.

Tuesday Twitter Trivia Winner – The HPL Lamp

HPL 575 LampThis weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question was about the HPL lamp.  You know that lamp that goes into the Source Four and can use a couple of different wattage versions of the HPL Lamp.  At first reading the question, it may seem easy enough right?  Well, there was a slight curve ball in the question. let’s see it again…

Since the HPL lamp is a “non-ANSI” code lamp, what does the term HPL stand for AND what wattage is the HPL lamp available in?

It was a two part question, the first half is a little easy.  HPL stands for High Performance Lamp. But what about the second half of the question. The standard lamps used in a Source Four are 575w and 750w. In some cases, lighting folks like to lamp the Source Four even further down to 375w.  Here is the curve ball part, did you know that there is an HPL 550w lamp?  The HPL 550w lamp is a 77v lamp that can only be used with ETC’s Dimmer Doubling.

We had a couple of responses with 150w.  Technically the Source Four can take a 150w CDM lamp for the HID version of the Source Four.  But looking back over the question, we are asking about the HPL lamp and not what wattage the Source Four takes.  Since the CDM 150w lamp is not a tungsten lamp and does not fall under the HPL designation, it should not be included as part of the response to our question. There were a couple of you out there trying to pull one over on us, but not so fast! ;)

This weeks winner is Eric Boxer who had answered the question with the correct name and all of the correct lamp wattage first. Congratulations Eric, look for an email from us!  You can follow Eric via twitter @eboxhead. Thank you to everyone for playing this week and for reading iSquint.net.

Tuesday Twitter Trivia – The HPL

HPL 575 LampLast weeks Tuesday Twitter Trivia question seemed like an easy one, and to some, it was.  This week, we are asking another lamp question.  It has to do with one of the most popular entertainment lamps out there.  With over 2 million Source Fours out there, the HPL lamp gets used quite a bit. Other then knowing that the Source four takes an HPL, do you know anything else about the lamp? So here we go…

Since the HPL lamp is a “non-ANSI” code lamp, what does the term HPL stand for AND what wattage is the HPL lamp available in?

As normal, please Direct Message us @isquint through twitter. The first person with the correct answer this week wins an iSquint prize pack. We have to limit this Tuesday Twitter Trivia to readers within the United States, sorry.  Break-a-leg!
