Back at SETC in early March, we wrote about Apollo Design preparing to release a New Clip Light. Today, Apollo officially released the Clip Light on their website with more details.
The Apollo Clip Light provides a clean and simple solution for safer work and crossover movement. Equipped with a gel retainer, mounting hardware, and a 9″ diameter of AP4150 New York Blue Apollo Gel, the 8 1/2″ Apollo Clip Light eliminates the awkward and unsightly process of taping gel to these handy lights.
The New AC-CLIP-LIGHT is sold in a pack of four and comes with the afore mentioned accessories for each light. Retail price for the 4 pack of clip lights is $75.00. To locate an Apollo Design dealer near you, visit the reseller section of Apollo’s website, www.apollodesign.net.
We have been receiving a couple of request for the iSquint poster that we had made and displayed at SETC this past week. If you attended the show, you may have seen our poster hanging around the show floor and around the hotel. We have had so many request for a copy of the poster that we have made a PDF version of the 12×18 poster for your viewing pleasure. While we wish we had more to send out to every request, we do not. A lucky bunch of attendees were able to receive a copy of the poster from our sponsor Selecon Lighting in their booth as well as at the Tech Mixer.
We do have plans for another promotion for USITT, but we are not letting the cat out of the bag yet.
Thanks for all the request for the poster. You can download the PDF version right here.
All good things must finialy come to an end. This past week at the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC), we saw and heard some pretty amazing things, not only on the show floor, but through out the conference.
To recap the week:
The rumor that Vari-Lite is poised to announce an LED moving light were confirmed by the poster ad prominently displayed in their booth.
Apollo is on the verge of releasing a clip light for use backstage with a gel ring.
Tomcat just announced the newest addition to their light duty 12×12 box truss, CORE.
SETC put out a new publication, Outside the Box, 25 Design-Tech Strategies Publication.
SETC is a great conference for young people from the high school level to grad students to find not only a summer career, but also a life long love of the industry. SETC is offers hundreds of ways for the younger theatre professional to network and meet industry professionals.
Next years conference is being held in Lexington, Kentucky. If you have a chance to make it, we promise it will be a great experience.
Thanks SETC for the memories!
While walking the show floor here at SETC (Southeastern Theatre Conference), we noticed that SETC had a booth selling shirts to help support the organization and the endowment. While contemplating which shirt to purchase to help support SETC, we noticed a publication that SETC put together called Outside The Box: 25 Design-Tech Strategies to Save You Time and Money.
The book is the first in the SETC Field Guide Series which is a collection of new articles and previously published columns from the popular “Outside the Box: Design-Tech Solutions” column in Southern Theatre Magazine. Both the book and the column, which was originated by Carl Lefko, (Currently the President of USITT), and later edited by Chistopher D. Zink and Stuart Beaman, feature innovative and cost-saving solutions to design-tech problems.
Some of the guides in the book include:
The book’s forward is written by Tony-Award winning Costume Designer William Ivey Long.
“An invaluable tool for all craftspeople in the theatre. . . . It is my hope that OUTSIDE THE BOX will become a standard for every theatre student and professional, and I look forward to future editions of this book.”
At the time of this writing, it is near the end of the second day of SETC in Birmingham Alabama. If you are still attending SETC on Saturday, stop by the registration desk or the SETC booth to purchase your copy of OutSide The Box. For those that are not in attendance, you can still purchase your copy through SETC’s website at www.setc.org. The book sells only through SETC for $18.
While visiting the Vari-Lite booth here at SETC, we noticed an interesting banner in the booth. Vari-lite has a blown up ad of their new VLX LED moving light that we hinted about a month ago. Out contact says that this ad will be running in the March issue of Live Design.
What is interesting is the verbiage on the bottom. It mentions that,
the VLX is equipped with 630 watts of LED’s yielding 3 times the lumen efficiency of equivalent tungsten sources. It’s revolutionary modular design provides for easy swap out of optical and mechanical components. VLX has a removable zoom system giving users the freedom to configure the luminarie with a fixed focal length of 22 degrees or a variable 3:1 zoom. The VLX produces perfect color mixing without any distracting color shadows. The luminarie has an extensive color gambit that offers designers color choices not previously possible with other conventional subtractive or additive systems. The color temperature is variable and can be seamlessly adjusted between 3200k and 6000k. Color shifts and strobing are stunningly quick.
We were not able to find our when the VLX may start shipping, but it was hinted at sometime this summer. We were not able to find out much more then what the poster said, but well keep after it for more information.
Apollo Design has put a new twist on the back stage clip light. It looks exactly like the clip light that you would pick up at your local hardware store, only Apollo has put their special touch to it.
Almost every theatre has at least one clip light backstage as a work light or cross over light with blue or purple gel gaff taped to it. Apollo has simplified the process and has added metal ring to the front that clips to the reflector, thus removing the gaff tape mess from the clip light.
While this is a rather simple and easy product, it does what it is suppose to and makes putting out gel covered clip lights easy, quick and clean.
The retail price for the clip light is $19.95. This included the clip light, metal gel ring. Apollo has not confirmed that if any gels will ship with the fixture, but chances are that they will. As with almost any fixture, lamps are sold separately. The fixture is set to start shipping as early as may.
