Lightwright Touch iPad App Released in iTunes App Store

Yes, the day has come. When the iPad was announced over a year ago, people went ecstatic. Then came the dreamers, what can we do with the iPad, how can it make our lives easier? In the lighting industry, it was easy, put Lightwright onto the iPad. It took almost a year since the iPad was released into the wild, but that dream has become a reality. At LDI 2010, we got our first look at Lightwright on the iPad, four months later, I am giddy as a school girl updating my patch and focus notes on my iPad, in Lightwright!

West Side Systems, the app developer that has brought us such wonderful apps like BeamCalc, Power Saver and more has just released their latest iPad app into the iTunes App Store, Lightwright Touch.

#LDI2010: Sneak Peek at Lightwright Touch for iPad

Yesterday, you saw a sneak peek mention from Andrea about Lightwright on the iPad.  You read that correct, LIGHTWRIGHT ON THE iPAD!  John McKernon, the developer of Lightwright and Eric Cornwell the developer of iOS apps such as DMXCalc and Power Saver have teamed up together to bring what we have all been asking about, Lightwright on the iPad, Lightwright Touch.

Mr. McKernon was kind enough to take a couple of minutes yesterday to speak about the iPad app on video.  Check out the 45 second video Lightwright Touch running on the iPad. The app is still in development and is expected for release either later this year or right at the beginning of 2011. A price has still not been set or hinted at so stay tuned for more info.

Vectorworks & Lightwright 5 Webinar Video Now Available

Back on May 18th, I wrote about a Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright webinar about how to exchange data between the two applications. The webinar happened back on May 25, yes, over a month away! Since I was at the Broadway Lighting Master Classes in New York, I was not able to get online to watch the webinar so I missed out just like you if you missed it.

Nemetschek, the developers of Vectorworks has just made the webinar avilable on their web site as a quicktime video!  So I guess we didn’t miss out!  Here is a bit of background on the webinar and video.

If you missed the May 25th webinar entitled “Exchanging Data With Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwright” you can view it here. Lightwright’s author, John McKernon, and Kevin Linzey of Nemetschek put this 35 minute tutorial together. If you are a lighting designer (or lighting student) you will want to watch this webinar. (Note: Please be patient and give this large file time to download, it is worth it!)

What are you waiting for, start downloading it now and get your learn on! Thanks Nemetschek!

Update: Lightwright 5 Right Around the Corner

Lightwright version 5We just received a note from City Theatrical, the US distributor of Lightwright, that version 5 release is right around the corner. The software update was announced around the time of LDI 2008 and has been in beta testing since then.  There have been some major upgrades to the software that have been sought after for a while in the program.

The update is expected to start to shipping mid may.  Click though to City Theatricals website with more information, feature listing and some nice looking screen shots of the update.  We have not heard a definitive answer on pricing yet, but the current retail price for the full version is $449.95 and $184.50 for the upgrade from a previous version.

Light Wright 5 Sneak Peak

lightwright5_screen_shotWe have been following the progression of LightWright 5 ever since it was announced last year at LDI. There have been several “leaks” on what is expected to be added to this update. As of right now, LightWright 5 is still in beta testing and coming along nicely, this from a very reliable source.  We can expect to see a release of the new software in the very near future.

To help tide our appetites till the new release of LightWright 5, we have been given a new screen grab of the current beta version.  While this screen grab may be close to the final product, so fields or layout may change during the course of testing and adjusting.
